Chapter 13
Obadiah's Operations
After discussing the new company with Pepper, Tony realized that Pepper was focused on work and couldn't engage in office games, so he got up to leave.
When they arrived at the elevator, they ran into Obadiah, who had just arrived at the company. Obadiah immediately put on a smile and came over to greet Tony.
"Hey Tony, why don't you rest a little longer? Are you feeling alright? I heard you didn't go to the hospital."
Tony raised his hand, feigning weakness, and explained, "It's just a minor injury. I'll recover after some rest. I came to the company for a quick look around, and seeing that everything's alright, I'm heading back now."
"Don't worry, I'll take care of everything at the company, no problem." As he said this, Obadiah's expression became slightly serious, and he took a step closer to Tony.
"Regarding the suspension of new weapon development, of course I know that you have just gone through something that must have been a big blow to you and you may need to take a break for a while. But the company needs to issue a statement, such as starting a new research and development program. The stock price has fallen too fast and a lot of capital may be ready to make a move."
"No, I'm afraid it will be very difficult for me to carry out weapons development. They captured me to force me to make the Jericho missile. It was a very painful memory. When I came back, the army doctor even suggested that I see a psychologist. He said I had PTSD."
As he spoke, Tony feigned a look of terror, but in his heart he was thinking, "Now you know you can't do without me, why didn't you think of that when you made your move?"
In fact, Obadiah had thought of this and anticipated the outcome. With Tony's disappearance and death, the stock price would fall to a certain level and then stop falling. He was confident that the Stark family would be wiped out, which was perfectly acceptable to him.
But now that Tony is back alive, instead of giving the stock price a boost, he's poured cold water on it—not developing new weapons, but adjusting production capacity.
The stock price, which had stopped falling, has completely collapsed. In the last two days, it has fallen faster than Tony disappeared for a month.
But now that Tony has brought up PTSD, Obadiah doesn't know how to comfort him. His hand unconsciously reaches into his pocket and touches the business card the short-haired man gave him, which only has a number on it.
Finally, Obadiah could only continue to feign concern, saying, "Then get some rest. I'll take care of things at the company, don't worry."
Upon hearing Obadiah's words, Tony thought to himself, "Old Deng's idea is quite good. He's even putting you in charge of Stark Industries? Then I've come back for nothing!" He immediately replied:
"No need. I've thought it through this time. I can't let you work so hard. You're so old and you're still worrying about the company. I'll pay more attention to the company in the future and come here more often. Next time you cooperate with the military, remember to call me. Haven't they always wanted to talk to me about developing new weapons? Maybe I'll figure it out then, maybe I'll even have an inspiration."
After saying this, Tony turned and left, leaving Obadiah standing there, unconsciously clutching the card in his pocket.
After a long while, Obadiah rushed back to his office and slammed the door shut.
Inside the office, Obama angrily pulled out his phone and dialed the number on the card that had been crumpled in his hand.
The call was answered after a long time, followed by a string of gibberish, which was definitely not English and Obama couldn't understand.
"Speak English, you bunch of useless trash."
Whether the person on the other end understood or went to find someone who could speak English, a voice continued after a while.
"Who are you, and what do you want?"
"Who am I? I am your employer, and you've done a bad job! You've brought Tony Stark back."
"Oh, I remember now, Obadiah of Stark Industries. Damn it, how did you get my number? Wasn't Lazar supposed to contact you?"
"That bald guy, I can't get through to him on the phone. Now you'd better figure out how to deal with Tony Stark, right now! Otherwise, don't even think about getting another rifle or a single bullet. I'll also have the US military sweep away your territory inch by inch!" Obadiah was really furious. He didn't expect Tony to be back and want to take control of the company. This directly took away his interests, and the next step might be to seize his power and force him to retire.
"That's impossible. We can't take action on American soil. That master won't allow it. We can't, we can't." The other person's voice trembled as he said this, as if he was afraid of something.
"I don't care what kind of lousy master you are, or Khan you are, you have to find a way to solve this problem for me." Obadiah was also in a state of impotent rage. After all, he couldn't take action in the country. That would leave too many clues, and eventually they would find him. At that time, not only would his shares be lost, but the entire Stark Industries would be devoured by the swarming hyenas.
"Wait a minute, let me send someone to look for Zaff and see how Stark escaped. It shouldn't be like this, how could he escape alone?" The other person was also a little puzzled. After all, a normal person couldn't imagine that he could build a mech while being watched, or that a biohazard would suddenly occur in a cave.
Obadiah didn't have any good ideas either, so he could only continue, "As soon as possible, think of a way to kill him for me. If all else fails, don't you have super soldiers? Give me one or two, and I'll do it."
In the end, it turns out to be terrorist retaliation against the United States. What does that have to do with me, a true and patriotic American? And I can even use the pretext of avenging Tony to sell a batch of weapons to US troops stationed abroad.
Upon hearing Obadiah's words, the other party immediately became alert and asked seriously, "Mr. Obadiah, what are you saying? I don't understand what you mean."
Obadiah snorted and said, "Do you think the guy who gave me your contact information didn't investigate you thoroughly? He told me that your boss has lived for a long time, has some amazing abilities, and has a group of subordinates who can use supernatural powers."
Seeing that their background had been discovered, the other party stopped pretending and laid his cards on the table: "Mr. Obadiah, I want to emphasize that our warriors do not have the so-called superpowers you have. They are just outstanding warriors personally trained by the Lord. The divine power bestowed by God is only possessed by the Lord."
"I don't care about any of that. Give me a few men, I'll take care of Tony, and then we can continue the deal."
"That's impossible, Mr. Obadiah. Those men are the Lord's personal guards; I cannot mobilize them."
"Then you can just wait to be bombed by missiles!" Obadiah roared in exasperation.
Seeing this, the other party became somewhat intimidated and took a step back, saying, "Don't get agitated, Mr. Obadiah. Let me contact Zaff first and wait a bit."
Obadiah knew he couldn't push too hard, so he softened his tone and said, "Fine, but at most one week. If you can't come up with a solution, you can die."
After saying that, Obadiah hung up the phone and sat down at his desk. Looking out the window, he saw Tony getting into his car and stared at him through gritted teeth for a while.
Tony, who was in the parking lot, suddenly felt like someone was watching him. He scanned his surroundings with his telekinesis but found no target. Curious, he looked around and saw Obadiah on the high-rise building. He waved to him.
Obadiah was startled and quickly changed his expression, waving with a fake smile.
