Chapter 3
Super Perception
Tony picked up the solid wood table leg, walked straight to the fallen soldier, and swung the leg forcefully, smashing it down on the soldier's head.
"I told you to shock me, and you even tried to shock my genitals!" At this moment, there was no sense of urgency about a life-or-death crisis, only naked hatred. It was clear that this was the same group of people who had tortured Tony before.
After being enhanced by the T-virus, Tony was no longer just a physically strong playboy who could build mechs by hand. Instead, he upgraded to the physique of a professional fitness enthusiast or a professional boxer. With a few blows, the soldier's head was smashed open, and red and white hairs were scattered all over the ground.
The intense stimulation made Tony's heart pound like a drum again, and his brain began to throb with pain, like the phantom pain during bone development, as if his brain was growing.
Ethan was somewhat stunned by the scene before him, but he quickly recovered. After all, he had survived in war-torn areas and seen many corpses, so he hurriedly tried to comfort him:
"Alright, Tony, he's dead."
Tony rubbed his head. The stinging pain came and went quickly, but his mind was a bit muddled, and at the same time, a series of booming sounds rang in his ears.
Hearing Ethan's words, Tony stopped as well and said something.
"Here you go, go smash those two guys' heads in." He handed the table leg to Ethan, who instinctively took it, then looked puzzled and said:
"What? Why did you blow their heads off? They tortured me too, but they're dead now. We should prepare to escape; the surveillance cameras will soon find out something's wrong here."
Tony was about to explain when he suddenly felt the corpse behind him begin to move, as if he had eyes in the back of his head.
"See for yourself, I don't think I need to explain." Tony stepped aside, letting Ethan see the two soldiers at the door.
"Holy shit! It's a zombie!" Ethan, who had seen all sorts of zombie movies, immediately realized what was happening when he saw the swaying corpse standing up. He then grabbed a table leg and rushed at it.
The zombie had barely stood up and hadn't even taken its first step into a new life when Ethan swung his table leg at it, knocking the zombie to the ground with a single blow.
Seeing that the zombie was still struggling to stand up, Ethan quickly hit it a few more times with the stick. Tony also stepped forward, picked up the rifle on the ground, and used the butt of the rifle to knock down another zombie.
After Ethan smashed the zombie's head into a bloody mess, the adrenaline wore off, and he slumped weakly to the ground. After a moment, he asked, his voice tinged with fear:
"What is that?"
Tony examined the rifle in his hand, took the other rifle magazines from the ground, and stuffed them into his clothes. Fortunately, Tony had some experience using weapons in his memory. After all, he was an arms dealer, and this part of his memory wasn't as dulling as scientific knowledge. He quickly activated his muscle memory and was basically able to use the rifle proficiently. Only then did he slowly and methodically answer Ethan's question:
"Zombie, didn't you just recognize it?"
"But that's not scientific! No virus works so fast that it can destroy the brain so quickly and make the dead stand up. It doesn't make sense."
Unfortunately, this is Tony the time traveler. If it were the original genius Tony Stark, he might have been able to explain to Ethan how this unscientific thing could talk about science.
At this moment, Tony, who had transmigrated and was impersonating someone else, scratched his head and could only offer a forced explanation: "Just consider it a miracle."
This explanation clearly offered Ethan some temporary psychological comfort; after all, the end of science is theology, right? He nodded, as if reassuring himself, and affirmed:
"Yes, it must be magic! No, it's witchcraft!"
"Think what you want. Can you use a gun? Get ready to go out." With that, Tony tossed the gun in his hand to Ethan and picked up another one for himself.
"I know a little, but I haven't practiced much, so my accuracy is a bit off."
"It's alright, zombies are carbon-based too. If you hit them with 7.62 bullets, they'll fall apart no matter where you hit them. If one shot isn't enough, just use a whole magazine."
"Hmm, shall we set off now?" Ethan pressed.
"Wait a minute, let the wind blow for a while longer." Tony glanced at the spinning exhaust fan, then walked to the iron gate, picked up his rifle, and stared outside.
Soon, the cave echoed with terrible screams, as if wild dogs had bitten some vital parts of them.
Then, the sound of gunfire rang out, indicating that things had descended into chaos.
"Okay, come with me." Tony, gun in hand, strode out.
Ethan quickly caught up, nervously holding his gun and looking around as if a zombie might jump out of the dark cave at any moment.
Tony was walking along when he suddenly pulled the trigger. The bullet hit an empty corner, and a zombie rushed out, only to be accurately shot in the head by the bullet he had just fired.
"How did you do that?" Ethan asked in surprise.
Tony also looked puzzled. After pondering for a moment, he replied, "I can't really explain it. I think I can see—no, not see, but sense—things in the distance and around me. Like here, there are a few zombies that have been attracted by the gunfire."
Before he finished speaking, Tony raised his rifle again and fired, the bullets hitting the zombies that suddenly rushed out, as if the zombies were deliberately using their heads to catch the bullets.
"The news didn't say you were a superhuman, a super soldier, Captain America, or anything like that." Ethan had given up thinking and started spouting nonsense like Tony.
"Actually, I also have the power of money." Tony didn't think much of it. He was still in danger and could clearly sense that although there weren't many zombies in the cave, they had all been attracted by the gunfire.
"Stay close to me," Tony told Ethan, then led the way with his rifle.
With their superhuman senses, the zombies were blown off their heads as soon as they peeked out, and the two of them quickly crawled out of the cave.
Seeing the long-awaited sunshine, Ethan felt tears welling up in his eyes and wanted to rush out, but Tony quickly reached out and grabbed him.
Ethan asked, puzzled, "What's wrong?"
"Something's not right! The exhaust fan is connected to the outside, isn't it?" Tony pressed.
"The adjacent land is just east of the camp," Ethan replied confidently.
"They should all have turned into zombies by now, but something feels off," Tony said, puzzled.
"What's wrong?"
"There's a big one!"
"A big one?" Ethan didn't quite understand. "A big zombie?"
"I'm not sure if he's a zombie."
"What do you mean?"
Tony really didn't know how to describe it, so he could only lean against the cave wall and carefully peek out with Ethan, pointing to an open space outside the cave: "See for yourself."
"What the hell is this!" Ethan exclaimed in surprise.
In the distance, near the boxes piled with weapons and ammunition, a huge monster, over three meters tall, covered in grotesque muscles, crouched down, devouring the still struggling zombies.
There were several mutilated zombies nearby, some with only their heads still opening and closing their mouths, others with only half their bodies, trying to crawl away.
"This must have evolved. I think calling it Tyrant might be more appropriate, Zombie Tyrant." Just as Tony finished speaking, the Tyrant in the distance suddenly stopped, turning its neck, which was thicker than a normal person's waist, to look at the cave entrance.
