Chapter 73
Shared Hatred and Confrontation
After a long while, the soldiers who had gone in to search came out and reported back.
"General, no target has been found, and there are no items resembling blood in the laboratory."
Ross didn't answer, took his tablet and walked straight into the lab, Tony followed. There was actually quite a bit of stuff inside, as a lab typically has many projects, but what remained had little to do with the Hulk. Under Samuel's direction, Stark's security personnel moved everything out very cleanly.
The computer containing Banner's blood research records was also moved along with the host. The remaining computers all had their screens lit up. The electronics experts turned on these computers and roughly reviewed the various experimental data. They were all ordinary biological experiments, and had nothing to do with super soldiers or the Hulk.
However, many of the experimental records and photographs are printed with the Hydra logo. The most outrageous thing is that a computer screensaver has the Hydra logo, which is now facing the laboratory door.
Ross's face turned ashen, and he said through gritted teeth, "This is a provocation! They're provoking the United States!"
Tony feigned curiosity and asked, "General, do you know this symbol?"
Ross shook his head and said, "I don't know, but it's obviously not, isn't it? An unknown force hiding in the trenches stole military secrets."
Okay, it seems Ross has already started imagining his own little drama. I just don't know how it's structured. I need to add some spice to it so Ross's imagination doesn't go astray.
Suddenly the computer screen turned red. The electronics expert operating the computer heard a beeping sound and quickly looked down to find the source, only to discover a bomb at his feet.
"bomb!"
After saying that, he scrambled out of the room, and Tony immediately grabbed the electronics expert and Ross inside, and they strode out of the laboratory.
As soon as they stepped outside, Jarvis detonated the bomb. Stark's bombs were extremely precise in their power control, completely destroying all the equipment inside the house. However, outside, apart from the flames burning Tony's clothes, Ross and the other two, who were thrown further away by Tony, were unharmed except for bruises.
Ross quickly stood up, first helping Tony up, then checking Tony over to make sure he was alright.
Tony waved his hand and said.
"It's alright, General. I was among the first users of Umbrella's enhancement technology. This little explosion is nothing to me."
Ross didn't say anything more after hearing this, and frowned as he looked at the laboratory engulfed in flames.
Tony stood aside and continued the conversation.
"That's exactly their style, destroying evidence. Actually, I do know something about this symbol."
"What do you know?" Ross asked curiously. He really didn't expect Stark to know information he didn't know. "Aren't you just an arms dealer?"
"I also saw it among my father's belongings, or more precisely, some work notes he left me. It mentioned that this symbol was from a secret organization in Nazi Germany called Hydra."
"Hydra." Just looking at the picture, Ross didn't recall anything, but hearing the name brought back some memories.
"Yes, Hydra. I originally thought they had perished along with the Nazis during World War II, but recent events have made me think that they are not only not extinct, but are actually very active."
"What do you mean?" Ross also thought of something, but he didn't want to share it with Tony, so he continued to try to get information out of Tony.
"Obadai, in order to seize my shares, joined forces with an unknown organization. According to my investigation, it is very likely Hydra. They have strong biological research capabilities, and Obadiah's enhancement technology should have been provided by them. By the way, Obadiah's laboratory was also destroyed afterward."
"Then it makes sense that they were targeting Banner's blood." Clearly, Ross had pieced together all the clues himself.
"Perfectly reasonable." Tony himself hadn't expected that things could continue like this.
"I need to investigate the base; there's a mole inside."
"A traitor?" Tony didn't understand.
Ross began to explain patiently, or rather, he was very pleased to have a moment to demonstrate his high IQ to Tony.
"Looking at their operation time, I was still on the plane at that time. However, in order for the operation to go smoothly, I had Catherine inform the base command center of the operation target two hours ago so that they could make an operation plan. After all, the men I led were injured, and the allocation of manpower must go through the command center."
"But they evacuated just two hours ago!" Tony exclaimed, suddenly realizing what had happened! Brilliant reasoning, Ross, you're a real genius.
"What should we do?" Faced with such talent, Tony didn't want to embarrass himself. He felt that the evidence he had painstakingly fabricated was not as comprehensive as Ross's quick thinking.
"I reckon they've emptied everything out and won't leave anything behind, just like with the Obadiah case. I investigated Obadiah's lab and found no useful information."
I knew you had ulterior motives. You must have been trying to steal my patent before you even contacted me. It seems Hydra is very efficient and has cleaned things up very well.
"So we're not going to look for them then?" Tony quickly added fuel to the fire. Hydra had secretly assisted Obadiah in assassinating him, and he had never had a chance to avenge this, nor did he have a legitimate reason to do so. After all, he hadn't caught Hydra's tail openly, and he had to rely entirely on spoilers.
"Don't worry, I have some leads," Ross said confidently, once again feeling a sense of intellectual superiority over Tony.
"So what should we do now?" Tony saw that Ross had already taken Hydra's debts to heart, so he didn't urge him anymore, trusting that Ross would definitely go to Hydra to collect interest on the principal.
Hydra, having suffered a loss, will be wondering when they incurred such a high-interest debt with Ross. However, they will likely accept the debt in a daze, since Hydra's organizational structure is relatively loose, with each entity acting independently and no one knowing anyone else's plans.
Thinking about it this way, Hydra is perfect to be the scapegoat. As an underground organization, it is completely unable to make a sound statement, making it practically a holy body of peace.
It seems that Hydra cannot be eradicated; if necessary, we will have to give them some blood transfusions.
While Tony was lost in thought, Ross's intelligence kicked in, and he actually came up with a good plan.
"Block all news, completely block any information from Greenburn Academy. We'll impersonate Dr. Blue, contact Banner, and lure him out. We'll wait for him here."
"No problem, I can have Jarvis handle all of this. There won't be any news leaking out, and I can also arrange things at the school," Tony assured him.
"I can have the military handle it and order the academy to be temporarily placed under strict control." Ross still preferred to take a strong stance.
Tony quickly advised, "No need, that would be too deliberate. The school will be under military control, the atmosphere will be different, and Banner is already easily frightened away."
"So what do you mean?" Since Ross believed that Hydra had already obtained the Hulk's blood and the plan had been leaked, he was no longer wary of Tony and even began to consider revealing the details of the experiment to Tony in order to cooperate to a limited extent.
"It's very simple. I've already had Jarvis donate a sum of money to the school. Now I'm on the school's board of directors. Everything is a business operation. The lab is being renovated temporarily. We've brought in some staff to maintain the illusion that everything is normal and are waiting for Banner to come."
"Okay." This method is indeed more feasible and more covert than Ross's.
"Now, can you tell me what's going on with Banner? It seems that the so-called bio-enhancement program is not just about researching super soldier serums."
