Chapter 57
We can talk, we can cooperate.
Coulson smiled and handed his ID to the doorman, who took it with a helpless expression, while jokingly saying:
"Agent Coulson, we've met many times already. I really can't let you in. If you need anything, you can contact my superior. You should know where he is."
Coulson said confidently this time, "Look at the computer. I have an appointment with Tony Stark. He told me to come here to see him."
The security guard, looking suspicious, took his ID and went to check the computer. Sure enough, he found the appointment record, which hadn't been there before. However, the guard didn't suspect the system had been hacked, since last-minute appointments were common.
Since there was an appointment, the security guard didn't think much of it, went back to the window to return the ID to Colson, and then let him through.
The vehicle finally drove into Umbrella Corporation. After the windows were closed, Rumlow said, "See, I told you we had to use my method. When can we get in using your method?"
Coulson said helplessly, "We've gotten in, but what if we meet later? We can't exactly say we hacked your visitor system and came in to ask you for enhancement technology."
Rumlow shrugged indifferently and said, "That's your job. My job is to inform him of the investigation results regarding the Marbury community biohazard attack, also known as the Obadiah incident, and to give you some background information."
Although Rumlow spoke casually, he was also worried. While this was the official mission, Pearson's private order to him was to find a way to obtain Tony's enhancement technology. According to Zola's guess, Tony had even more advanced technology; otherwise, there was no reason for him to have survived Obadiah's attack.
Rumlow figured that if he couldn't get his hands on the technical data, he could help Coulson persuade Tony to hand over the enhancement technology, since SHIELD's stuff could also be Hydra's.
He could get away with doing shoddy work for Zola before, since it was a collaboration, but Pearson was his direct superior, and he had to find a way to complete the tasks assigned to him.
Thinking about all this, Rumlow looked at the back seat of the car. The back seat seemed to be empty, but there were clear creases on the seat cushion, like a buttock sitting on it. The outline was very full and very tempting.
"I don't mind you looking, but you won't see anything anyway, and it would only be very rude," a woman's voice rang out, clear and slightly seductive.
Rumlow quickly looked away, but instead of replying, he said to Coulson, "You weren't just thinking of visiting through the front door, you also brought a secret weapon."
Coulson smiled wryly and said, "Natasha is not someone I can send out; she was assigned by the director at the last minute."
"Hey, I'm still here. I'm also helpless. I just finished a mission and came back to rest, and then I was sent out again." Black Widow Natasha said as she moved closer to Coulson.
Coulson felt the breath on his ear, a faint fragrance wafting into his nose, causing his mind to wander. He quickly reminded himself:
"Natasha, I'm driving, don't joke around with me."
"This is boring." Natasha sat back in the back seat and kicked Coulson's seat in dissatisfaction.
Although Rumlow couldn't see Natasha's face, he had already imagined a series of actions in his mind, and his heart was burning with passion. He began to film the shady little theater.
At the same time, Rumlow also thought of a problem: it seemed that Nick Fury had assigned the mission to the wrong person. If Natasha had gone directly to Tony Stark, the mission might have been successful.
If this mission fails, go back and see what beauties Hydra has, and have Pearson send them out to try.
Lost in thought, the car pulled up in front of the company building. Although S.H.I.E.L.D. hadn't been able to get in recently, their surveillance hadn't slowed down, with satellites constantly monitoring the building. They had already learned that Tony lived in this building.
As the car door opened, Black Widow's voice rang out: "I'm going to check out the lab."
Coulson cautioned, "Be mindful of the time. This invisibility cloak is very useful, but it consumes a lot of energy. It's been activated since we entered, and it should only last for about an hour. Remember to come back on time."
Black Widow didn't reply, leaving Coulson and Rumlow unsure whether she had left or not. After waiting awkwardly for a while, they got out of the car and headed towards the Umbrella building.
As soon as he entered, Rumlow asked Coulson, "Where do we find Tony Stark, then have a hacker break into the visitor system and get the receptionist to tell us where to go?"
Before Rumlow could finish speaking, the monitor next to him suddenly lit up, and an electronic voice came from it.
"Agent Coulson, Agent Rumlow, please proceed to the 13th floor. Mr. Stark is waiting for you."
Coulson glanced at Rumlow with a sigh: "Looks like we don't need to infiltrate anymore. We've been discovered. Let's go."
After speaking, Coulson led the way to the elevator, which opened simultaneously with the sound.
After the two entered the elevator, it went straight to the thirteenth floor. The monitor in the hallway turned into arrows, guiding them step by step to Tony's room.
Upon entering the room, Tony asked curiously, "Agent Coulson, Agent Rumlow, what's the matter?"
Coulson looked at Tony, too embarrassed to ask for his company's enhancement technology, so he turned to Rumlow and asked him to speak first.
Rumlow, without any embarrassment, said directly, "I'm mainly here to explain the findings of the investigation into the Marbury biohazard attack."
As he spoke, Rumlow took out a file and began reading a prepared script.
The gist of the story is that Obadiah conducted an illegal weapons experiment, mentioning that he demonstrated the weapon's effects to Ross. Finally, it states that Obadiah's biological laboratory was destroyed by him to erase the records of the illegal experiments.
"Well, then tell me what this is for. Is it to seek compensation from Obadiah? His assets have already been pledged to me to prioritize the repayment of losses caused to Stark Industries."
The lawsuit against Obadiah has yielded significant results during this period. After all, Obadiah is dead, and no one is speaking up for him. Stark Industries directly demanded huge compensation on the grounds that he sold weapons to terrorists, which seriously damaged Stark Industries' reputation.
After hearing Tony's words, Rumlow didn't say anything, but looked at Coulson, as if to say, "It's your turn."
Coulson, having already considered his words, took the file from Rumlow and said, "According to our investigation, the technology Obadiah used originated from a cave in the Middle East, which is where you were imprisoned. Furthermore, Umbrella Corporation was established after you returned from the Middle East, so we have reason to believe that you also possessed this technology."
"So?" Tony asked, though he had a rough idea of what the other party was after.
"To prevent similar bio-attacks and uncontrollable superhuman events from happening again, we need to master this technology," Coulson said, trying to be as tactful as possible.
"Why don't you just tell me to eliminate this virus for the sake of love and peace?" Tony said speechlessly.
Tony's reaction was expected, and Coulson began to persuade him: "According to our research, this technology originates from a virus that is highly destructive and could have serious consequences if it gets out of control. Within the United States, S.H.I.E.L.D. has an obligation to oversee it."
Although the T-virus inside the zombies that were taken back was neutralized within 24 hours, the scientists at S.H.I.E.L.D. still managed to glean quite a bit of information.
"I suggest you say those things to my partner, General Ross, and see who has the final say."
Once General Ross was brought up, Coulson couldn't use righteous indignation to pressure him anymore, because Ross was indeed righteous. But he couldn't abandon his work, so he changed his approach and continued to persuade him:
"We can talk about that too. General Ross is cooperating, right? We can cooperate too, and take a stake."
That piqued Tony's interest, and he pressed for more details:
"So what can you give me?"
