Chapter 91

Backup Plan

Ross and Betty were further away, watching the broadcast signal that Tony had arranged.

Betty was very surprised to see Banner transform. The laboratory accident had happened too quickly. Betty vaguely knew that a terrible change had occurred in Banner, but she was injured and fainted too quickly. When she woke up, Banner had already left, and Ross remained silent. She could not know the specific details.

I never imagined Banner would turn into such a monster. Moreover, Banner's tattered clothes successfully aroused Betty's sympathy and rekindled her love from back then. The lost white moonlight was regained, which made Betty forget her current boyfriend Leonard.

"How has Banner managed all these years?" Betty suddenly asked Ross.

Ross hesitated for a moment, but still said in a very straightforward way, "They were constantly on the run, being chased like dogs. The previous intelligence indicated that they were repairing machines for a soda factory in a slum in Rio de Janeiro."

Betty was even more upset when she heard this, but thanks to Tony's preliminary work, Betty misunderstood Ross's position.

"It was all Stark Industries' doing, wasn't it? I knew capitalists were the worst."

Seeing that Betty was focusing her criticism on Tony, Ross wisely didn't explain, nor could he. Could it be that Banner was having a hard time, and that all the hardship came from him?

At the same time, Ross realized that Tony had really helped ease the tension between him and his daughter, and it seemed that what Tony said was quite right; he couldn't always tell the truth.

The father and daughter then continued to watch the action team's attempt to arrest Hulk. When T01 was released, Betty, a biologist, immediately became somewhat annoyed.

"Stark Industries is conducting human experiments! Researching biological weapons, this, this is too evil." Forgive Betty for her elite education; she found it hard to think of an insult, and after thinking for a long time, only "evil" came to mind.

Ross is somewhat perceptive; at least he knows he has to go along with his daughter's wishes.

"Yes, I am also strongly opposed to human experimentation, which is where Tony Stark and I disagree."

It's just that Tony isn't here, otherwise he would definitely have gotten into a fight with this old man. Such a huge experimental base, and you say you don't do human experiments? But today there's this guy, Bronsky, whom you drugged!

Betty now believes Ross, and the relationship between the father and daughter has improved, with them beginning to reminisce about the past.

"Back then, I was also against Banner conducting experiments. We could have used animals, but he thought the experiments would definitely succeed and insisted on doing it himself."

Upon hearing Betty's words, Ross quickly changed the subject, saying that Banner's reckless direct human experimentation back then had its merits and that they couldn't go into details.

"Betty, if you help me, you're helping Banner too. You saw what Tony Stark did. If he catches Banner, what do you think he'll do? Will he turn Banner into one of those crazy monsters?"

The battle had reached a fever pitch, with T01 launching an attack on Hulk and successfully biting his neck.

Ross's eyes lit up; at least they had a blood sample. Fortunately, Betty, who was concerned about the situation on the battlefield, didn't see this. Ross quickly composed himself and suppressed his excitement.

Betty said with concern, "Didn't you agree to help Banner get back to normal?"

"But I'm afraid Stark won't keep his word at all. You know, he's an arms oligarch, a capitalist, he has no integrity."

Betty asked doubtfully, "But now, haven't these monsters already controlled Hulk? Isn't it too late for us to do anything now?"

As a long-time rival, Ross has great confidence in the Hulk, even though Tony's T01 looks really good (as a shareholder and possibly the biggest customer, Tony gave Ross a product brochure before this weapons demonstration officially began).

At the very least, he could hurt the Hulk. Because he couldn't use weapons of mass destruction, Ross had basically never managed to hurt the Hulk. He had only ever tried to arrest Banner without transforming.

"Hulk hasn't gone all out yet."

The scene unfolded exactly as Ross had predicted: Hulk became enraged and his power surged once more, smashing T01's head with a single hand. Simultaneously, the team's backup plan was activated, the sonic generator successfully subdued Hulk, and then Jericho missiles left Hulk covered in wounds.

"No, Stark will kill Banner!" Betty cried out anxiously, grabbing Ross's arm tightly.

"Dad, you have to make Stark stop! Banner will die if this keeps up."

"Okay, don't worry, I'll call Stark right now!" Rose, being held by his daughter, was a little flustered, just like any other person. He instinctively picked up the phone to contact Tony, but then suddenly realized that his goal was to catch the Hulk. Calling now would interfere with Tony's plans, and what if the Hulk got away?

However, there was no need to hesitate any longer. The situation on the field was changing rapidly. Hulk's sneak attack resulted in him being lifted up and controlled by an armed helicopter.

"Looks like it's all over." Ross hadn't expected to catch Hulk like this in the end.

Betty looked at the large, bleeding holes all over Hulk's body and said anxiously, "Dad, I need to see him. We can't let Stark take him away now."

As she spoke, Betty reached out to pull Ross. Ross agreed with Betty's opinion and said they had to hurry over and not let Tony take Hulk away. He had originally arranged for Bronsky to be on the scene to keep an eye on things, but the guy went offline as soon as he appeared and hasn't made a move since.

"I'll take you there right now." Ross gestured to his deputy, Catherine, to make the arrangements and immediately contacted Tony.

As soon as Catherine picked up the phone, the screen changed again, displaying a warning: "General, Hulk has escaped."

Ross saw it too, and angrily slammed his fist on the table: "I knew it!" After slamming it down, he looked at a surprised Betty and quickly explained:

"Stark is about to start a new round of pursuit. Next time he'll bring even more powerful weapons. I'm afraid Hulk won't be able to handle it, maybe." Ross pretended to hesitate.

Betty indeed ignored Ross's earlier lapse in composure and was more concerned about Banner.

"What should I do, Dad? We can't let them hurt Hulk and Banner anymore!"

Seeing Betty's concerned expression, Ross couldn't help but agree with Tony's words. Sometimes being a jerk isn't so bad; at least Betty and he got along better.

Oh, and one more thing, Tony must not be allowed to have any more contact with Betty; stay away from that scumbag.

After a moment of random thoughts, Ross told Betty about Tony's backup plan.

"I have a plan that requires your cooperation."

Betty asked, puzzled, "How am I supposed to cooperate?"

"Banner is looking for the experimental data from back then, and obviously he couldn't find it in the lab, so he'll come looking for you next."

"I'll notify you then, and you'll come and arrest him? And then there'll be a military equipment display!" Betty said somewhat discontentedly.

"No, this time it's my decision. I won't let anyone else do it. You just need to give him the data and then persuade him to cooperate with the research. I know what he wants to do. Isn't it to make the Hulk disappear? I can help him." Ross followed Tony's advice and occasionally told a lie to help maintain the father-daughter relationship.

"But I'm afraid he won't listen to me, after all, Stark really wants to kill him." Betty already sees Tony as the main villain, while Ross is an upright soldier who endures humiliation and is forced to submit to capital.

"It's okay, just persuade him. Give him the data. Even if he doesn't listen, it's fine. He'll go to another place where we've already made preparations."

Although Ross spoke with great confidence, he actually didn't know how Tony planned to capture the Hulk next time after this failure.

"Okay, I'll give it a try." Betty finally agreed to Ross's suggestion, after all, she had already been fooled by Ross and Tony after contacting them first.
