Chapter 83

Archer

"Roger!" Hawkeye replied to Coulson as he fired the first arrow.

The arrow flew past Rumlow and exploded in mid-air, the thick smoke obscuring the view of the security personnel chasing after it.

Hawkeye then emerged from his hiding place, and at the same time, the surrounding surveillance cameras spotted him and began to rotate their cameras in preparation for tracking him.

Hawkeye then fired a second arrow, which shot into the sky. The arrowhead broke off mid-air, and a powerful electromagnetic wave exploded in the air, immediately shutting down the surrounding surveillance systems. The Red Queen lost ground-based monitoring.

"This way!" Hawkeye waved to Rumlow.

Rumlow also spotted Hawkeye, and at that moment he was almost moved to tears. "There are still people who care about me. I'll definitely do a good job when I get back this time and try to avoid taking too much of S.H.I.E.L.D.'s operational funds."

Rumlow dashed to Hawkeye's location like a gust of wind. Before Hawkeye could react, Rumlow grabbed Hawkeye's arm and held him like a chick. Hawkeye almost fell over. Rumlow shouted.

"Where do you want to run?"

Hawkeye then realized what was happening and asked in surprise, "How did you run so fast? Did the special forces get a new drug? Is it working so well?"

Rumlow didn't have time to explain. Seeing the surrounding surveillance cameras start rotating again, he glanced around, confirmed the direction of the gate, and started running.

"Shoot arrows, stop them, stay close to me." After saying that, Rumlow started running again, and Hawkeye quickly followed, drawing his bow and firing various explosive arrows to hinder the security personnel's pursuit.

But Hawkeye quickly realized that Rumlow was running too fast, and he couldn't keep up at all. He hurriedly shouted, "Rumlow, what are you using? Give me a shot!"

Rumlow heard the shout and turned around to look. He realized that Hawkeye hadn't followed. Thinking about his mission, it seemed more reasonable to have someone help him escape, but he hadn't taken any drugs and had nothing to share with Hawkeye.

Finally, Rumlow gritted his teeth and made a decision. He turned around and ran towards Hawkeye. Before Hawkeye could react, he saw Rumlow rush over like a whirlwind, grab him, and throw him upwards.

Rumlow originally intended to carry Hawkeye on his back, but Hawkeye subconsciously adjusted his posture in mid-air, and ended up sitting on Rumlow's head. Hawkeye even subconsciously squeezed Rumlow's head to make himself more stable.

Rumlow was stunned. This was not what he had expected. However, there was no time to change his posture. He quickly continued to run outside while shouting.

"Shoot arrows! Blow them away, then we'll all go!"

(The surveillance system came online at this point, and after waiting for a long time with a black screen, Tony suddenly saw Hawkeye riding Rumlow! He couldn't help but rub his eyes. What the heck? Hawkeye has a mount now? Has he become a mounted archer? Is this an SP version?)

Hawkeye, riding Rumlow, felt a little strange, but he still maintained his professionalism and immediately drew his bow and shot again. Although he was shooting from a distance, Hawkeye still accurately hit the pursuing security personnel and even took the time to shoot down a few surveillance cameras.

And so Hawkeye rode Rumlow smoothly to the vicinity of the gate. Hawkeye turned the quiver, took out an arrow that was obviously a size larger, and then shot it at the gate. The arrow hit the gate accurately, and then with a loud bang, the gate was gone.

The gate, which wasn't damaged by the natural gas leak, has now been destroyed by Hawkeye's missiles.

Once outside the gate, Hawkeye immediately contacted Coulson.

"Coulson, we're out! Come pick us up!"

Coulson immediately replied, "They're on their way."

Not long after he finished speaking, Rumlow, who was speeding down the road, saw the S.H.I.E.L.D. car approaching. It then drifted and stopped in front of the two of them. Coulson, who rolled down the window, stared in disbelief at their actions.

"What happened? Hawkeye, are you hurt?"

Before Hawkeye could answer, Rumlow yanked open the car door, threw Hawkeye inside, then got in himself and urged, "..."

"Hurry up! Drive faster!"

After all, Rumlow was in charge of the operation. Coulson turned the steering wheel, stepped on the gas, and started to drive away.

At this point, Tony, who insisted on playing his part completely, also sent out pursuers.

Several armed helicopters rose up behind the Umbrella Corporation building, and several armored vehicles rushed out of the bombed-out gate.

"Step on the gas! Step on the gas!" Rumlow noticed that the security personnel on the armored vehicle had climbed out of the sunroof and were holding rocket launchers!

Didn't Tony Stark tell them? This isn't acting, this is killing me!

Coulson also noticed the pursuers behind him and quickly said to Hawkeye, "Hawkeye, you still have arrows, right?"

"Don't worry, we have enough arrows." Hawkeye kicked open the car door, leaned out, and held several arrows in his hand. He pulled back the bowstring, and the arrows scattered and accurately shot at the pursuing car.

The arrow exploded in front of the armored vehicle, sending up a burst of flames, forcing the pursuing armored vehicle to slow down and detour.

"And in the sky!" Rumlow shouted, pointing at the armed helicopters in the air. The helicopters were already very close, and you could even see the cabin doors wide open, with people inside adjusting machine guns.

"Can this take them down? The chaff is effective against missiles, but machine guns probably won't work," Hawkeye asked the two men.

"Leave this to me, we've arrived at the station." As Coulson spoke, several police cars appeared ahead, marked with red lines, and a police helicopter appeared in the sky, broadcasting through a loudspeaker.

"Please stop! This is the Los Angeles Police Department. This area is under lockdown and passage is prohibited!"

"Will it work?" Hawkeye asked curiously.

Coulson wasn't really sure either; this was a last-minute solution. Rumlow, as the operation commander, hadn't made any contingency plans for the operation's failure from the start.

"Give it a try. If it doesn't work, shoot them down. Captain Rumlow will explain to his superiors."

Fortunately, Tony was only acting and sent Rumlow away in a plausible way. He didn't necessarily have to bring him back. Seeing that there were officials present, he had the armed helicopters brought back.

After driving past the police line, Coulson stopped the car, quickly switched to another vehicle, and notified the agents disguised as Los Angeles police officers to evacuate.

Outside the Director's office at the S.H.I.E.L.D. Tri-Wing headquarters on Theodore Roosevelt Island, Washington, D.C.

Coulson and Hawkeye stood at the door; Rumlow had just gone in to report, and the two of them were waiting outside.

Coulson glanced around and whispered to Hawkeye, "How are you feeling?"

"What do you mean, how is it?" Hawkeye didn't understand what Coulson was talking about.

"How does it feel to ride Rumlow?"

Hawkeye said with a strange expression, "Not bad, it brings back some childhood memories."

"Childhood? Did your father carry you around while you played?" Coulson asked curiously.

"No, in the circus, you know, I perform in the circus, sometimes riding a unicycle, sometimes riding all sorts of animals!"

While the two were chatting, a group of people hurriedly walked down the corridor, led by none other than Alexander Pierce, the Minister of the World Security Council and former Director of S.H.I.E.L.D.
