Chapter 45

So it was a hydra!

Oh, it's Ross, the old man from The Incredible Hulk. He later became Secretary of State and President. He's a very inspiring old man.

Unexpectedly, Obadiah invited him, but it makes sense, as Ross has been dedicated to bio-enhancement, also known as the Super Soldier program.

Tony had previously researched Pepper about who to sell the T-virus enhancements to, and they had also studied him. Unexpectedly, they ended up getting in touch this way.

As the soldiers carried the body away, Coulson and the others also came in.

The originally spacious villa suddenly felt a bit crowded with so many people.

The sergeant frowned as he looked at the person who entered. He had clearly ordered that no one else was allowed to enter, and a bad feeling instantly crept into his mind.

Coulson was at a loss with the soldiers. They couldn't really start a fight, and looking into the villa, he could see Tony standing there unharmed. There was no need to fight. He could only lay his cards on the table and call in someone to settle things.

"Hello, I'm Phil Coulson from S.H.I.E.L.D., here to protect Tony Stark. There's just been a misunderstanding with your soldiers outside."

Upon hearing the misunderstanding, the sergeant had already ordered his men to raise their guns. Coulson quickly took out his phone: "Wait a moment, I'll contact someone to clear up this misunderstanding."

The sergeant was very patient. After Coulson finished his call, his own phone rang soon after. Upon hearing his superior's order on the phone, the sergeant did not hesitate and left with his soldiers. However, what they were carrying was not only the corpses, but also the soldiers who had been stunned by Hawkeye's electric shock.

Having finally resolved the soldiers' troubles, Coulson prepared to greet Tony and ask what had happened. Judging from the Umbrella Corps' preparations, he knew that this matter must be related to Tony.

If Tony knew Coulson's thoughts, he would definitely cry foul, saying that it was Obama who brought this upon himself. However, if you trace it back to the beginning, it really was his own fault, since the T-virus didn't originally exist in this world.

"Mr. Stark, what exactly happened? Was it an experimental accident?" Coulson asked bluntly.

Tony was about to explain that it was Obama's doing, but before he could speak, Pepper interrupted:

"We have no comment on these matters at the moment. Please refrain from making unfounded speculations, or we will pursue legal action."

After Pepper finished speaking, she patted Tony on the shoulder, telling him not to interrupt. Tony realized that he couldn't admit that he was involved in this matter.

After all, so many people died because of Marbury. If he were to take the blame, the public opinion would be extremely negative.

After Pepper said that, Coulson didn't know how to respond.

Seeing that his boss was alright, Eric had already organized his men to move the bodyguard's body.

Although we didn't see the bodyguards' strength in life, just looking at their physiques is enough to make us envious. Only those who have actually trained know how difficult it is to build muscle.

Look at that power, especially those biceps. If I had muscles like that, I could take down an armored vehicle with one punch.

Besides Eric, there was another person who kept staring at the corpse: Rumlow.

Rumlow was out of options. After all, the weapons and equipment were far inferior, and he couldn't just take them by force. It seemed he would have to rely on his connections and insist on getting them. After thinking it through, Rumlow stepped forward and introduced himself.

"Mr. Stark, hello. I'm Agent Rumlow from S.H.I.E.L.D., in charge of the Marbury biohazard attack. We need to investigate the pathogen. Could you give us one of these bodies?"

I dared not say anything more, I just hoped to take one back to Zola to report back.

When Rumlow wasn't speaking, Tony hadn't really noticed the guy wearing an oxygen mask. But now that he'd spoken, Tony looked at the face behind the transparent mask and felt a sense of familiarity.

Oh right, isn't this the guy who met up with Obama in the video?

He's with S.H.I.E.L.D.? If S.H.I.E.L.D. wants to kill me, then why is Coulson still asking me what?

No, not S.H.I.E.L.D. Tony looked at Rumlow's face for a while and finally remembered. This was Crossbones from Captain America 2, the real Hydra.

If I were to whisper "Hail Hydra" in his ear now, would he also go crazy and start thinking of me as Hydra?

Now everything makes sense. Hydra wants to recruit Obadiah, but Obadiah isn't qualified unless he takes over Stark Industries.

So he only contacted Obadiah secretly, without even telling him the name of Hydra.

As an ancient organization, Hydra most likely knows who is behind the Ten Rings Gang, so while helping Obama kill him, it also tests the strength of the Ten Rings Gang.

The Ten Rings Gang failed to kill themselves, and then somehow Obadiah obtained a corpse containing the T-virus.

Obadiah couldn't find reliable researchers, but Hydra had plenty, and they certainly didn't care whether human experimentation was cruel.

No wonder they were able to produce the enhanced product faster than me. It's possible that their strains are different. Their strains come from the most harmful original liquid, and no matter how much research is done, they are probably more harmful than the strains in my blood.

Ultimately, it's estimated that he got S.H.I.E.L.D. to freeze his account, which alerted Hydra, causing them to stop cooperating with Obadiah, which made Obadiah panic and want to kill him.

Having figured everything out, Tony was in a bad mood. He had originally planned to stay far away from S.H.I.E.L.D., since he didn't have the Iron Man suit and wasn't a genius.

But it seems I've been targeted by Hydra for a long time; it's either you or me. Could I possibly join Hydra and shout "Long live Hydra" with them?

Rumlow, seeing that Tony hadn't responded for a while, asked again, "Mr. Stark?"

Upon being asked again, Tony snapped out of his daze and said in a firm tone:

"They were Stark Industries employees after all, and the company still has obligations to handle their affairs properly. I'm afraid we can't provide that for you."

Since we've been targeted, we won't let you have your way, no matter what.

Rumlow remained conscientious and continued to reassure him, "Mr. Stark, please rest assured, we will not disturb the body and will return it on time for the funeral."

Rumlow also had his eye on Obadiah's body, since it was noticeably larger than the others, clearly a special case, one worth three.

"This is my uncle, a dear friend and relative," Tony couldn't help but think of the joke.

It was obvious that Rumlow didn't understand the joke. He paused for a moment, only thinking that Stark was so kind that even when Stark was about to kill him, he still loved his family and friends. He didn't think about raising the price at all.

Coulson also felt it was necessary to remove a body. Although it didn't necessarily have to be a replica, S.H.I.E.L.D. needed to at least have some understanding of it, and he spoke up as well.

"If it's convenient, let S.H.I.E.L.D. take one so they can have some understanding of it and be prepared for similar disasters in the future."

No one picked up on the "beloved family and friends" joke, which ruined the fun. Tony couldn't very well just say he needed more money. Look at the military, they didn't give any money, but they gave us empty promises.

Tony, seeing the two clueless individuals, wanted to offer some further guidance. "How can you possibly survive in S.H.I.E.L.D./Hydra if you're this slow? You need to at least know how to write a blank check. You can't expect to take something without spending a penny."

Just as Tony was about to speak, he suddenly noticed something gleaming with golden light beneath the collapsed wall. After taking two steps forward and seeing it clearly, Tony immediately changed his mind, no longer in the mood to waste words with them.

"Okay, I'll bury Obadiah myself. You can choose one of the other bodyguards. I still need to tidy up here, so I won't keep you any longer."
