Chapter 65

Bronsky's Shock

On the outskirts of Rio de Janeiro, there is a privately owned airport, but it is actually a military outpost.

South America is considered America's backyard, and various U.S. agencies are stationed there everywhere, including the military.

At this point, the airport, which had been disguised as a civilian airport, had been occupied by Ross's men. Tony stepped off Stark's transport plane, followed by the Umbrella Corps led by Eric.

Ross didn't come to pick him up at the airport, after all, he was a general, but he still sent his deputy, Catherine. Tony didn't want to see an old man as soon as he got out of the car. Just then, Catherine arrived, and Tony went up to her and gave her a hug, even pinching her cheek when no one was looking.

Catherine gave Tony a slightly coquettish look, then glanced at the people who had come with her. Seeing that they hadn't noticed, she quickly put on a serious expression and said...

"Please come with me, General Ross is waiting for you."

Tony followed Catherine to an aircraft hangar, which had been converted into a temporary command center.

Ross was standing in front of a monitor, emphasizing the precautions for the operation.

"First, we need to remain secretive. The target is in this slum, which is densely populated. Although I'm not afraid of causing a riot and killing some Brazilians, I'm worried that the target might escape in the chaos if there are too many people."

A middle-aged man of average height was listening attentively to Ross's speech. Behind him sat several soldiers, and judging from their positions, the middle-aged man was probably the leader.

After finishing his speech, Ross saw Tony and showed a hint of surprise.

"I didn't expect you to come, Mr. Stark."

Ross really didn't expect Tony to come in person. After all, he was just a super soldier hired by Umbrella. What was his boss doing here?

Moreover, based on the intelligence I obtained about Tony, his experiences in the Middle East should have had a significant impact on him. He's stopped developing weapons, so why is he now actively taking risks again?

Tony had already prepared his reason: "After all, it's the first time the action team has cooperated with the general, and it's also the first real combat for the T-virus-enhanced soldiers. I'm very curious about their performance."

Ross, however, had some other ideas, emphasizing, "Since the Umbrella Action Team is serving as a reserve unit, I still hope the military can handle this matter independently."

At this point, he patted the middle-aged man next to him on the shoulder and introduced him: "This is Emil Bronsky, a true soldier, whom I specially transferred from NATO."

Bronsky nodded to Tony as a greeting, clearly indicating that he still had reservations about using the action team as a reserve force. He was confident in his own abilities, so assigning a reserve team showed a lack of trust in him.

However, being soldiers after all, they resolutely carried out orders from their superiors.

"It's alright, we'll follow your instructions. Eric, take a look at General Ross's action plan and cooperate fully with his operations."

Tony wasn't worried at all about the reserves not playing in the end. After all, that's Hulk! Do you think Bronsky is Thor or Thanos? There will definitely be a chance for the action team to play.

Eric didn't mind Rose and Bronsky's performance, and was in a state of extreme confidence that led to his indifference. After all, people don't care about the arrogance of ants.

It was clear that Ross had been monitoring Banner for some time, and after the team was in position, he immediately took advantage of the darkness to drive to Banner's residence.

They didn't even use helicopters, advancing quietly, afraid of alerting the enemy prematurely. This made it difficult for Tony to have transport planes accompany them, as they were ready to drop the T0 test sample at any time.

After the squad took position, under Catherine's orders, Bronsky led his squad in a raid on Banner's residence.

As a result, Banner ran away. As a highly intelligent genius, Banner had obviously thought of this day long ago and had rehearsed various escape plans in his mind countless times.

But Banner clearly hadn't considered the obstacles people might pose. He had just reached the factory where he worked and was trying to escape using the familiar terrain when he ran into thugs who had a grudge against him.

Meanwhile, Bronsky caught up with the trail and, through his binoculars, located Banner's approximate position. However, there were too many people, so he couldn't pinpoint Banner's exact location.

"Report, target spotted. Civilians present, unable to lock onto location."

"Switch to tranquilizer darts, forget about the civilians, fire!"

Ross's order was clearly unethical. Bronsky hesitated for a moment, but quickly regained his composure. Orders came first. He instructed his men to reload, aim, and prepare for indiscriminate firing.

But just then, Bronsky discovered that the night vision equipment was malfunctioning, and the civilians who had been blocking his way were now flying away.

The squad's sniper, with the best field of vision, immediately exclaimed in the comms channel, "That target has disappeared! It looks like something big has appeared."

Ross listened to the voice on the walkie-talkie, his brows furrowing deeper and deeper. After a moment of silence, he said, "Change to live ammunition. Be careful."

After speaking, he looked at Tony, who was watching the surveillance footage with great interest. Although the camera lens was a bit shaky, it was real, and it was a novel experience for Tony.

"Stark, get your team ready. The monster's appeared, grab it."

Ross had initially held onto a sliver of hope that he could capture Banner before Hulk transformed, thus eliminating the need for Umbrella's action team, but it now appears that the operation has failed.

"No problem, General, you can talk to Eric. I'm not good at commanding. What is that black thing? It looks pretty big." Tony asked, pointing to the black shadow that flashed by on the monitor, knowing the answer already.

Eric kept his eyes glued to the fleeting scene in the video, the image replaying in his mind. His intuition told him that today's mission was not so simple.

At this point, Ross knew he had to say something, so he explained, "It's a product of the biological enhancement project, a huge monster, even more powerful than your T-virus enhancement. The mission is to capture it."

After listening, Eric looked at Tony, who nodded. Eric immediately stood up, went out, and called the team members in another car to prepare to enter the factory area for the operation.

Gunfire erupted throughout the factory area. A small squad fought with the ferocity of two armies facing off, the gunfire never ceasing, but with little effect.

Bronsky narrowly dodged the Hulk's charge and directed his squad members on higher ground to prepare for heavy firepower suppression.

At first, when Bronsky received the equipment, he didn't understand why the capture mission needed heavy firepower, which was completely out of character for a covert operation. Now, Bronsky regrets not bringing a tank.

As Bronsky tried to draw Hulk's attention to create space for the squad to fire, the walkie-talkie crackled to life again.

"Bronsky, prepare to retreat. Reserves, move in."

Bronsky, thinking Ross was unaware of the situation, reminded him, "There's a monster here. The backup team won't help. What we need now is mortars, missiles, or maybe an armed helicopter."

Before Ross could reply, Hulk threw a huge can at Bronsky, who immediately jumped to the side.

As soon as he landed, Hulk leaped towards Bronsky, intending to smash him flat.

Bronsky couldn't get up in time and could only try to roll to the side, but someone faster came. Eric rushed to Bronsky's side and slammed into Hulk.

Hulk only did a normal jump, while Eric used all his strength, and the effect was outstanding; Hulk was sent flying.

Bronsky was stunned by what he saw, and forgot to roll over while lying on the ground.

"What's going on? Are all these reserve soldiers robots? T-800s?"

Besides this reason, Bronsky couldn't think of any other reason why such an illogical scene would occur.
