Chapter 43
Free Materials
Since Eric also had no residence in Los Angeles, he lived at the company after taking over the Umbrella Action Team.
When the thunder rumbled that day, Eric was strolling around the company. Due to a technological breakthrough, all the laboratories were working overtime, and the entire company was brightly lit.
The laboratory was filled with the screams of animals and the excited shouts of researchers. Eric, who had high-level privileges and could roam around freely, couldn't help but sigh that he was too kind and that the scientists were more perverted.
Eric was also very excited, especially after seeing the enhanced rat experiments. Eric had already told Wesker that once the results of the human experiments stabilized, he would be the first to receive the injection. Just thinking about the enhanced power made Eric tremble all over. It was simply awesome!
Just as Eric was lost in thought, alarms suddenly went off throughout the company, glaring warning lights lit up, and a mechanical female voice began broadcasting throughout the company.
"Level 1 Alert: T-virus detected in the air. Level 1 alert activated."
As the alarm sounded, all the researchers stopped what they were doing and took out their assigned oxygen masks from various corners of the laboratory.
At the same time, the doors of each laboratory closed, and the independent air circulation system began to operate at full power to ensure that the virus would not spread across areas.
Eric, who was in the patrol corridor, also took out an oxygen mask from the nearest emergency equipment storage area and put it on. Although Wesker's researchers said they could resist most variants of the T virus, who knew which strain from the lab had leaked this time.
Fortunately, Wesker was also working overtime at the company and quickly figured out the cause, calling Eric via walkie-talkie.
"The virus is outdoors! It didn't leak from our lab."
"What? It's not our fault?" Eric thought he had finally become a villain's henchman in the traditional sense, a terrorist organization that leaked an evil virus.
"Yes." Wesker was also surprised, but the monitor in front of him clearly stated that the outdoor detection device had detected the T-virus in the air.
After all the company's independent air circulation systems were activated, it was found that all indoor indicators were normal.
"Is this virus something we own exclusively?" After thinking for a while, Eric could only think of one possibility.
"I don't know either. Let's close the company gates and have security on standby. I'll contact the boss."
After Wesker hung up the call, he tried to contact Tony, but Tony's area had been blocked by Obadiah, and Wesker couldn't reach him.
Wesker then tried to contact Pepper, but obviously failed again. With no other options, Wesker contacted Eric once more.
"We can't get in touch with the boss, looks like we'll have to figure it out ourselves."
"I've always been curious, what would happen if I came into direct contact with this virus?" Eric hadn't seen the original experiment; what he was injected with was a weakened version of the T-virus that had been weakened many generations earlier.
"Yes, we can give it a try. I don't know what the effect of this T-virus variant is, since it's airborne."
Wesker acted quickly, arranging for researchers to take several laboratory mice and have them escorted out of the company by heavily armed security personnel.
A group of researchers crowded around the glass of the company's main entrance, staring wide-eyed at the cage in the hands of the security guards, all very curious about the effects of this airborne T-virus variant.
After all, Umbrella Corporation has not yet discovered an airborne version. It seems to be related to the blood sample provided by Tony, so the strains are all bred from Tony. The number of reproductions is still small, and more variants have not yet appeared.
The experimental mice, whose environment was suddenly changed, became very nervous and ran around in their cages. But suddenly, like a robot that had been turned off, they collapsed into bed.
The security personnel looked down curiously, while also making sure to step aside to allow the researchers behind the glass to observe.
A group of people stared at the dead rat for a minute, when something strange happened. The dead rat came to its feet, its eyes turned red, and it charged at the security guards carrying the cage.
However, due to the cage's obstruction, the zombie rats could only bark at the cage and couldn't reach the security personnel.
"Alright, come back through the disinfection tunnel and hand the rat over to Lab Seven." Wesker, having seen the results of the experiment, was slightly disappointed. Like one of their other experiments, it was a product of failed enhancement: a zombie.
However, Eric seemed to remember something, so he moved to a secluded spot and took out the walkie-talkie again.
"Wesker, if rats turn into zombies, then people can too, right? How far will this spread?"
Wesker realized what was happening as soon as he was reminded.
"Wouldn't that mean there would be a large number of zombies nearby? No, a large number of experimental subjects."
"Didn't you say before that human experimentation could speed up research? But Tony didn't allow human experimentation, yet there are experimental materials everywhere now." Eric was focused on the experiment succeeding quickly; he wasn't as ethical as Tony.
"Yes, even though they may have become zombies, we can still study the changes of the T-virus in real humans, and we also have serum, which we need to study as well." Wesker excitedly began to talk to himself.
After listening for a while, Eric reminded him, "We need to hurry. If we take too long, the police or other agencies might come."
Wesker realized what was happening and quickly ordered, "Yes, hurry up and do it. You take the security personnel and head out. Try to capture them alive. I'll arrange for the lab staff to vacate the research lab."
Soon, fully armed Umbrella security personnel, led by Eric, set out, and several armored vehicles began their hunt in the Mabbury community.
The armored vehicles had limited capacity, and although the zombies were bundled up and stacked on top of each other, Eric's team quickly transported seven truckloads of zombies back to the company.
The laboratory was already too full, so they had to temporarily convert the warehouse and crammed zombies into it.
On one of his trips back to the company, Eric received the latest research results: the T-virus in the air was ineffective against him after he was injected with the T-virus repair fluid, and he was able to remove the damn mask.
At the same time, he received a new mission: Tony contacted Wesker and sent someone to the villa to receive something.
Before Eric could even set off after receiving his mission, he received a report that the hunting team had been attacked by armed men. When he arrived, he encountered Coulson and others from S.H.I.E.L.D., and eventually went to Tony's villa with the S.H.I.E.L.D. agents.
When they arrived at Tony's villa, they discovered that some people were already there besides them.
An armed helicopter was parked outside the villa, with several soldiers wearing gas masks on guard. They fired warning shots as soon as they saw the group approaching.
Coulson glanced at Rumlow and Eric, who had already raised their guns, and Hawkeye, who had nocked a bow, and reluctantly raised his identification to negotiate.
"Don't get excited, I'm Agent Coulson from S.H.I.E.L.D."
