Chapter 41
Rainy Night
The barrage of bullets undoubtedly riddled the bodyguards with holes, killing them instantly.
But there are exceptions. Whether it was because Obadiah was more suited to the T-virus and evolved to be stronger, or because he quietly retreated behind the crowd and had a buffer, he was still alive at this moment.
Tony walked over to Obadiah with interest and asked, "Any last words?"
He planned to silence Obadiah. It wouldn't matter if his enhanced abilities were exposed, since he would be selling the technology to the military in the future. However, since Obadiah knew he had telekinesis, he couldn't let him live. Besides, he had long planned to kill Obadiah.
Obadiah tried to spit at Tony, but his lungs were like a funnel. After a while, the blood and foam didn't fly very high; instead, they all landed on his own face. He almost choked and was so angry that he died.
Tony kindly said, "I'll just give you a quick death. Remember to say hello to my dad after you go down."
Tony thought there was no way the original owner's cheap father could go to heaven, after all, he was a weapons wholesaler.
Obadiah resigned himself to his fate, but still cursed, "They will come for you. You are their target. I am just a chosen tool. Haha, I'll be waiting for you down there. You will be worse off than me."
Tony had no interest in hearing what Obadiah had to say anymore, guessing it wouldn't be anything nice. With a thought, an invisible hand snapped Obadiah's neck.
Everything around them fell silent, and Jarvis's voice rang out.
"Experimental data recording complete, archived."
---------------
Tony's project is finished, but the Marbury neighborhood is in complete chaos.
Because it was an affluent area, the houses were of high quality and the security facilities were excellent. At first, although everyone felt disgusted by the zombies outside the window, they were still relatively relaxed.
Especially when they saw drones, robot dogs, and other high-tech equipment clearing out the zombies, many people even grabbed popcorn and gathered at the window as if they were watching a movie.
But soon the situation changed. One by one, people inside the house collapsed, screams echoed everywhere, and the once safe fortress became a sealed tomb.
Rumlow breathed a sigh of relief after putting on an oxygen mask and began dealing with the biohazard crisis in the Marbury community.
Fortunately, the Marbury community is a suburban villa area with a very open space. Given Rumlow's location, the surrounding area is deserted and will not have a significant impact.
"Send out all the drones and have people guard the intersections, no one is allowed to enter or leave." With Rumlow's order, the S.H.I.E.L.D. agent team began to operate efficiently.
They quickly brought the situation under control and began using drones and robotic dogs to clear out the zombies. They no longer needed to worry about the impact; as far as the eye could see, there were no living people left in the entire Marbury community.
Just as Rumlow was diligently transmitting video data to Dr. Zola, a car registered in the S.H.I.E.L.D. system sped over the checkpoint and drove right up to Rumlow.
Rumlow glanced at the familiar face driving the car, subtly closed the computer he used to communicate with Dr. Zola to avoid attracting the other party's attention, and then took the initiative to greet the other party.
"Hey, Coulson, what's up?"
Coulson opened the car door and asked anxiously, "What's the situation now? Any news about Tony Stark?"
While Coulson was questioning Rumlow, a man carrying a bow and arrow silently got out of the back seat of the car. The first thing he did was pull an arrow out from behind his back, nock it, and begin to stand guard.
"Tony Stark? That playboy?" Rumlow feigned ignorance, even though he knew Obadiah was there to cause trouble for Stark, but he hadn't received any relevant information from the mission briefing.
"Yes, that playboy. He's on the protection list, and I'm in charge of him!" Coulson explained.
"Don't get excited. We haven't found him yet. If he's on the protection list, the device should alert us as soon as it detects him." Rumlow pointed to the footage transmitted by the unmanned device next to him, which was constantly confirming the zombie's identity based on the footage.
Hearing Rumlow's words, Coulson breathed a slight sigh of relief, glanced at the screen instinctively, and froze:
"What the hell is that?! A zombie?"
"It's probably similar to that thing; only a headshot can solve it," Rumlow explained.
"What's going on? Where did these things come from?" Curiosity about the zombies overshadowed his mission, and Coulson asked curiously.
Rumlow could only shake his head, feigning ignorance: "I don't know. It was already like this when I came here. At first, it probably mutated after contact with rainwater, but later it became airborne."
Only after Rumlow said that did Coulson notice that Rumlow was dressed very conservatively. After a moment of stunned silence, he hurriedly shouted, "Quick, give me a mask."
After hurriedly putting on the mask, he asked for an extra one and said to the person behind him, "Barton, you put one on too."
Upon hearing Coulson's words, Rumlow noticed that there was another person standing in the shadows. However, compared to Coulson's slow reaction due to his concern for Tony's life or death, Barton had already noticed that all the agents were wearing masks. Although he didn't know why, he obediently put on his own mask.
"Hey, Hawkeye, you're here too." Compared to Coulson, who called Hawkeye by his first name because they were familiar with each other, Rumlow preferred to call him by his codename, Hawkeye.
After putting on the mask, Coulson gradually calmed down: "Since we haven't found Stark, he might still be alive. I need to go in and check."
Rumlow remembered his other mission to observe the effects of the virus enhancement. Since the drones hadn't yet explored Tony's villa, he needed to go and see for himself to get firsthand information, so he agreed.
"I'll go with you. It's almost dawn. We've been using the robot dog to clean it, but I'm afraid we won't be able to finish before dawn. I also need to send some people in to clean it. I'll give you a ride while I'm at it."
Without giving it much thought, Coulson immediately expressed his gratitude: "Thank you so much."
"Wait a moment, you will need to put on full protective suits, as rainwater may also carry this unknown virus."
After the two men got dressed, Rumlow organized a small team and drove deeper into the Marbury community.
The rain had stopped, and without the patter of raindrops, the night seemed even quieter. The occasional howls of zombies made the Marbury neighborhood feel like a scene from a horror game.
However, the S.H.I.E.L.D. agent team was still very capable. They worked together smoothly all the way, and the zombies were basically killed as soon as they showed their heads. None of them rushed in front of the car to stop it.
But soon Rumlow, who was leading the team, realized something was wrong: the number of zombies had clearly decreased, which did not match the number detected by the drone.
Just to be on the safe side, Rumlow turned on his walkie-talkie and asked the operators at the rear base.
"Why are there fewer zombies? Were those drones and robotic dogs used to clear them out?"
The logistics personnel quickly replied: "Report, an armed force has appeared in the community and is also clearing out zombies. They have also loaded the captured zombies onto vehicles. Report complete."
Rumlow didn't have time to answer the logistics guy's question; he had already spotted the unidentified armed forces.
A fully armed squad emerged from the darkness. They wore black hazmat suits embroidered with an umbrella logo, uniformly wore bird-beak-shaped oxygen masks, and carried stun guns in neat formation.
