Chapter 42

The Umbrella Squad

Upon discovering the zombie, this armed force immediately used a stun gun to shoot it. The powerful electric current temporarily damaged the zombie's nervous system. As the zombie fell to the ground and lost its ability to move, the security personnel with net guns tied it up and dragged it into the following vehicle.

The vehicle was a large black and white van with the words "Umbrella Biotechnology Company" and the red and white Umbrella logo on it.

"Who are they?" Rumlow muttered in confusion.

Coulson, after hearing Rumlow's words, glanced at Umbrella Corporation again, remembered something, and said:

"It seems to be a new biotech company that Tony Stark started; I've seen it in the files."

"What are they doing, clearing out zombies?" Hawkeye was a little confused by their actions. Most people would run away as fast as they could when they saw zombies, let alone actively clear them out. Were they possessed by the Virgin Mary? Is this still America?

Compared to Coulson and the other man's surprise, Rumlow couldn't sit still any longer. "This guy is stealing my job!" he thought. "Zora had instructed us to collect all the zombies, dead or alive, because they were all excellent materials."

Zola spoke with a nostalgic tone, as if recalling some wonderful time, a carefree era when experimental supplies were free.

With that in mind, Rumlow ordered his men to prepare for battle and began shouting at the enemy, "This is S.H.I.E.L.D., drop your weapons!"

The other side had been keeping a close eye on the S.H.I.E.L.D. group, and when they saw that the S.H.I.E.L.D. group was preparing for battle, they immediately began to counterattack, and their equipment was clearly better than theirs.

The armored vehicle used for collecting the bodies was positioned horizontally, blocking most of the people behind it. Three heavy machine guns popped out from the top, automatically aiming at the cover of the S.H.I.E.L.D. members.

People dressed in black protective suits quickly got into the car. When they got out, they replaced all the non-lethal weapons, such as stun guns and net guns, with experimental weapons produced by Stark Industries. Some of these weapons were expensive to manufacture and inconvenient to mass-produce, but they were powerful and expensive to maintain.

That wasn't the end of it. As the other side went on alert, the sound of heavy vehicles crashing and ramming could be heard in the distance.

Then three more Umbrella armored vehicles arrived. Rumlow immediately ordered his men to put down their weapons, while he raised his hands to indicate that he had no hostile intentions. He was just doing a job; why was he working so hard?

After the support vehicles arrived, a person got out of the armored vehicle, also wearing a special black protective suit and a bird-beak mask.

After getting off the bus, he glanced at everyone, then walked to the center and slowly removed his mask.

Seeing this, Rumlow and the others instinctively tried to retreat. This guy recklessly took off his mask; what about them? If they turned into zombies, would they fight back? If they did, would the other side think they had attacked first and started a war?

Before anyone could figure out what to do, the other person had already taken off their mask, exposing themselves to the air.

"Hi, long time no see. You're Hawkeye, right?" The other person greeted him first after taking off his mask.

Hawkeye Barton looked at the other person and immediately remembered. He stepped out from behind, intending to greet him in the same way, and prepared to remove his mask.

The other person quickly stopped him, saying, "You'd better not pick it. There's still T-virus in the air. Although the concentration is low, we can't rule out the risk of infection."

Hawkeye didn't insist after hearing what the other party said. He had just thought that Rumlow's information was wrong, but he only found out that there really was a virus after the other party confirmed it.

"Long time no see, Eric. You're not working for the CIA anymore?"

As an agent of S.H.I.E.L.D., Hawkeye often goes on various missions, and by chance, he has come into contact with Eric, who works for the CIA.

Eric explained, "There's nothing I can do about it; Stark pays us well."

Coulson knew Eric; based on the previous intelligence, he knew that Eric had been hired by Tony to clean up the Ten Rings Gang, so Coulson wasn't too surprised that he would be here.

"Since we all know each other, it must be a misunderstanding." Seeing this, Rumlow quickly tried to get closer to them, not daring to mention zombies anymore. He figured he could have whatever they wanted.

Coulson added, "You guys keep going, we need to check on Tony."

"Yes, we're going there anyway, let's go together."

After speaking, Eric waved his hand, signaling the vehicles behind him to make way, and then got back into his original car.

Coulson and the others exchanged glances, said nothing, and got into their cars.

After Eric got into the car, he first contacted Wesker via walkie-talkie.

"Official personnel have entered. The organization that was keeping watch on the perimeter was called S.H.I.E.L.D. They are very powerful, but they probably don't know the value of these zombies. They were just using machines to clear them on the perimeter. Now they are going to Tony's place. I'm going with them. I've told the security department to speed up the clearing process."

Wesker had been keeping a close eye on the zombie containment work, and upon receiving Eric's message, he immediately replied, "Okay, I'll send another team to contain the zombies. You don't need to be in charge here anymore; just focus on completing the boss's tasks."

"Okay, got it." Eric hung up the call, then glanced at the S.H.I.E.L.D. team following behind the car. They had intervened earlier to prevent a conflict and avoid unnecessary casualties.

Although Eric didn't know what the ordinary agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. were capable of, he had seen the arrows Hawkeye carried before, so he wouldn't be surprised if Hawkeye pulled a mini nuclear warhead out of his quiver.

---------------

After being successfully persuaded by Tony, Eric spent only two days in the hospital and before his injuries had fully healed, he was sent to Umbrella Corporation. The reason given was that Umbrella was a biotechnology company that could also treat his injuries using very advanced and cutting-edge treatment methods, or rather, experimental therapies with unknown side effects.

Eric unwittingly became a guinea pig. Of course, Tony wasn't entirely heartless, and Wesker understood that they couldn't kill the goose that lays the golden eggs, so they used relatively stable technologies.

Eric was able to remove his mask so brazenly because he had been injected with a T-virus enhancement agent, albeit in a very small dose, even smaller than that given to mice. Although the enhancement effect was not significant, only improving his recovery ability, it did give him immunity.

Having confirmed that Tony's enhancement potion was effective, Eric obediently stayed at Umbrella.

After learning of Eric's abilities, Wesker, adhering to the principle of making the best use of his talents, assigned Eric to train and lead a special squad.

The team has three main tasks: First, to be responsible for the company's external security, since it is a company with big secrets, and security must be in place.

Secondly, in the event of an unexpected incident during the experiment, the experimental site should be cleaned up and any mutated organisms that may have appeared should be dealt with.

Thirdly, there's Eric's old profession: acting as the company's black glove, engaging in illegal activities such as purchasing consumables from illicit channels and dealing with researchers with an overly strong sense of justice.

Eric didn't stand on ceremony with Tony either. After taking over the team, he first obtained a large batch of weapons and equipment from Stark Industries, arming the entire team to the teeth.
