Chapter 1076

Eyes in the Dark

Chapter 1076 Eyes in the Dark
The sounds, like sighs, overlapped, forming a thick, viscous swamp that pressed down on Wade from all sides.

He is still falling.

Darkness surged in from all directions, with no visible boundaries or directions; only the chilling wind howled in my ears.

"what……"

A long, drawn-out sound came from deep within, like a person exhaling their last breath before death.

Vader's heart pounded like a drum. He tried to open his eyes, but he could see nothing but utter darkness.

Then he heard another voice.

"Boom..."

—Like distant lightning rolling through the clouds, like tree roots breaking in the soil, or something enormous turning over in the depths of darkness.

Wade's heart skipped a beat, and he felt a chill run through his body.

The chill didn't come from the outside; it seemed to seep out from between the bones.

His body was trembling uncontrollably. This trembling was not only due to the fear that arose from the bottom of his heart, but also an uncontrollable physiological reaction, as if he had fallen into an icy river.

Suddenly, something flashed past my field of vision.

—Before him, within reach, floated a sphere resembling the sun.

It was dark red, emitting a faint and cold light, and occasionally flame-like mist would rise and expand on it, then shrink back.

Wade's fall slowed down immediately and soon came to a stop.

He looked up at the sphere, then at his feet, and found himself suspended in a void, with nothing but darkness beneath his feet and above him.

The light from that sphere shone for an unknown distance, and as far as the eye could see, there was only darkness.

Wade looked down and saw his own hands.

Her fingers were long and slender, with rounded and neat nails, pale with a hint of blue.

The garment has a silky drape, wide cuffs, and upon closer inspection, exquisite trim along the edges.

However, the robe, which reached to her ankles, was the same pearly white as her body, making the patterns on it rather inconspicuous.

Thinking back to the handshake earlier that day, Wade suddenly understood—

At this moment, he was experiencing everything from Mrs. Grey's perspective.

Is this what she wanted to tell herself before?
Vade thought to himself.

"what……"

The sigh rang out again.

In the darkness, another faint light suddenly appeared.

It was a woman, in her twenties or thirties, wearing a faded light gray cotton coat, her hair tied in a loose braid.

She looked up, her face filled with pain, despair, and endless resentment.

More light gradually appeared.

A baby, who looks like he has just been born, still has a winding umbilical cord around his belly, and his hands are clenched into fists.

Then there was an elderly man in his sixties or seventies, wearing a dark gray overcoat and thick deerskin boots, his chest covered in blood.

Not far away, a woman in a white nurse's uniform got up from the ground with a bewildered look on her face, and opened her arms to the sky, as if she was asking someone for help.

There was also a policeman in a dark gray uniform who took off his hat and stared blankly at the "sun" in the sky.

Then came the thin, long-faced vendor in a plaid shirt, with a towel wrapped around his head to wipe his sweat and a few coins in his hand.

Suddenly, Wade's heart skipped a beat.

—The man wasn't setting up a stall, so why did I think he was a "street vendor"?
He immediately turned his gaze to the man and realized that he had seen him in his dream before.

In that dream... it was like an explosion.

Then he saw a girl wearing a sari, holding a drink in her hand, but the gold lotus flowers on her skirt had disappeared, replaced by tattered strips of cloth and bloodstains.

A young man was striding toward her, wearing jeans and sneakers, with a camera hanging around his neck, but the casing looked broken.

Wade couldn't understand how he could see so clearly—the distance between them was clearly very far.

In what seemed like only a few seconds, one or two hundred figures suddenly appeared in the darkness, each distinctly different from the others.

Some of them were tall with fair skin, and they were dressed very thickly, as if it were the dead of winter.

The other group was shorter, with brownish skin, thick lips, and simple clothing; they were probably from some tropical region. But the confusion, panic, and fear on their faces were so similar.

In the air, the red sphere began to spin, emitting a whooshing sound.

At the sound, the figures suddenly stopped moving, no matter what they were doing.

Immediately afterwards, a hundred or two pairs of eyes turned to the sphere near Wade, as if they were looking at him as well.

Their faces were filled with the pain and despair frozen in time for their deaths.

At that moment, Wade's hands and feet were ice-cold, and his mind went blank.

Another feeling welled up from the bottom of my heart.

That wasn't his own feeling, but rather Mrs. Grey's.

—She was killed, forever nailed to the crack between the real world and the underworld, unable to turn back or dare to go on, only able to wander endlessly in the castle, like those old tables and broken wine barrels, gradually emitting the smell of decay.

She will never forget that feeling.

Every day and night, when she passes through the walls and sees those living, warm people, despair resurfaces, just like the wound on her body that can never heal.

Wade could sense that the emotions emanating from Mrs. Grey were exactly the same as those of the figures crawling down below.

The scent of death and despair created a strange resonance between them.

"Boom..."

Strange thunder rumbled again from afar, and the red sphere in the sky suddenly expanded several times its original size, emitting a powerful suction force.

The figures below moved.

They opened their mouths and let out silent howls, flying involuntarily toward the red ball!

Wade watched intently, holding his breath.

One by one, the figures were sucked in, and the red color became more and more vivid. It turned into a huge ball of light, like a gem that had been imbued with life, radiating an eerie red glow.

Even Wade... no, even Mrs. Grey was drawn to that red ball of light, drifting toward it at an ever-increasing speed.

She was terrified and struggled with all her might, screaming at the top of her lungs, but to no avail.

Just as she was about to get close to the ball of light, a warm force suddenly pulled her back from behind.

Mrs. Grey hurriedly looked behind her.

In the deepest darkness, lights suddenly appeared.

The firelight came from Hogwarts, from the castle itself.

A dim, yellow light shone from countless windows, faint yet like anchors, firmly holding onto Mrs. Grey as she fell into boundless darkness.

The next second, the ghost was pulled upwards by this force at an extremely fast speed.

"Boom..."

Thunder rumbled again, and Mrs. Grey turned to look—

In the darkness, an eye opened.

The eye was enormous, with black flames burning in its pupil. It first looked at the red ball of light, then its eye slightly shifted and looked at Mrs. Grey.

It began to approach.

The entire dark world trembled.

"puff!"

As if emerging from dehydration, Mrs. Grey pierced through thick soil, through countless layers of rock and foundation, and through countless floors and walls, before landing with a "thud" on the hard, cold stone floor.

She was pulled back!

The ghost's mouth was wide open, but it couldn't utter a sound.

She huddled there, curled up in a ball, trembling all over.

After an unknown amount of time, a voice rang out from above—

"Mrs. Grey?"

That was Luna's voice.

Wade suddenly opened his eyes.
