Chapter 820
We Must Fly Faster!
Chapter 820 We Must Fly Faster!
The two figures, like falcons breaking free from their restraints, charged forward against the raging air currents with an indomitable spirit!
Flying ahead was Remus Lupin, his face stern, his short hair flying wildly in the wind;
Following closely behind was Mad-Eye Moody, whose scarred face wore a murderous grin, his demonic eyes fixed on Adebayo, his gleaming white teeth seeming to tear his throat apart!
"How is this possible?" Adebayo exclaimed in shock. "A flying broomstick? How could you possibly get your hands on something like that?"
—Logically speaking, an item of this length, like a flying broom, should only be stored in the cargo hold of an airplane and should be burned to a crisp by now!
Moreover, he had been watching this group of people for more than just a day or two, so he naturally knew that they had not brought flying brooms with them when they came to the United States, nor had they purchased flying carpets or applied for door keys.
The wizards among the Purifiers have all said that it is virtually impossible to apply a Transfiguration or Shrinking Charm to these types of magical items!
Because the spell can affect the magic above, causing it to become ineffective or out of control.
This is the source of his confidence in setting this trap and believing he could take down these wizards.
Lupin and Moody completely ignored his question; their response was two beams of spell light that tore through the air!
Adebayo hurriedly pulled on the flying carpet and rolled over to avoid the two spells, but the carpet's speed only increased slightly under his pull, and it was no match for the rapidly flying broom!
He wasn't a real wizard after all; sitting on the flying carpet, he could only control the direction and ascent/descend, and couldn't make it accelerate according to his will.
Moreover, flying carpets are like sea turtles in the ocean, emphasizing stability and comfort, but in terms of speed and agility, they are completely incomparable to the swordfish-like broom. Even the old Comet series can easily beat the most advanced flying carpets currently available.
But Adebayor was a seasoned purgeer. In the blink of an eye, he pulled out an extremely small, oddly shaped gray-white pistol and unexpectedly fired it behind him!
"Bang bang bang bang!"
Four bullets whistled towards the approaching two men, the piercing gunshots sounding muffled and eerie in the high-altitude wind.
But Moody and Lupin made an evasive maneuver almost the instant Adebayo raised his hand, their brooms drawing dangerous arcs in the air as they chased after Adebayo like two agile ball-like balls!
The wand vibrated rapidly!
Bullets may veer off course due to strong winds, but spells are minimally affected.
Despite Adebayo's efforts to twist his body and dodge, he was still struck by the two spells one after the other!
His body instantly froze into stone, and the powerful impact knocked him off the flying carpet, sending him plummeting straight down into the sea below!
Lupin whizzed past the slowly floating flying carpet, casually waving his wand, and the carpet instantly turned into a fireball.
Moody swooped down on the petrified Adebayo on his broom, casting a stun spell on him first, then Mad-Eye grabbed Adebayo by the collar and lifted him onto his broom.
The two fell for a distance before the broom came to a stop in the air.
Lupin shivered uncontrollably, his teeth chattering involuntarily, making a soft "clucking" sound.
He glanced at Moody, whose lips were bluish-purple and whose eyelashes were covered in frost, and gently waved his wand. A warm breeze swirled around the two of them, gradually dispelling the omnipresent chill.
"Merlin's beard!"
Moody flexed his fingers, which felt like they were about to freeze into ice, and said tremblingly:
"This is the first time I've flown this high, I thought I was going to freeze to death... Remus, what kind of spell is this?"
Lupin forced a smile, his teeth chattering as he said, "The Warm Breeze Spell, a spell created by Vader."
Moody paused for a moment, then looked up at the sky.
The enormous plane sped off into the distant horizon at a speed of nearly 900 kilometers per hour.
Can't catch up.
Even though their aerial confrontation was very brief, the flying broom was much slower than the airplane.
Moreover, at an altitude of nearly 10,000 meters, the air is thin and the temperature may be as low as minus 50 degrees Celsius. Staying there for even a second would be an extremely severe test, making rapid flight impossible.
Moody lingered for a moment, enjoying the warmth of the spell. Once he had recovered somewhat, he unhesitatingly turned the broom and said:
"Let's go, we need to lower our altitude first."
The two brooms, side by side, swiftly and lightly swooped down toward the sea level, and with each step they took, they could feel the temperature noticeably warming up.
Once they reached an altitude of about two or three hundred meters above the sea, the two wizards first cast a Disillusionment Charm to prevent Muggles fishing at sea from recording their flight on broomsticks. Then they slowed down and flew towards England.
At this moment, the plane in the sky had shrunk to a silver dot of light. Moody turned his magic eye, glanced at Lupin who was only a few meters away, and raised his voice to shout:
"Do you still have the strength, Remus?"
His gaze swept over Lu Ping's pale face, and he asked:
"I mean... if we can't fly back in one go, we can just find a deserted island to land on and rest for a while!"
Lupin turned his head, naturally unable to see the invisible Moody, but still controlled the broom to close the distance a bit, and said:
"Mad-Eye Man, asking this at a time like this is pure nonsense."
Although their crisis here seems to have been resolved, countless troubles still await them on that huge, smoking machine in the sky!
Almost all the passengers on the plane saw them perform magic and fly out on two bare broomsticks!
Making them forget this experience and filling in suitable memories is a considerable task.
Furthermore, they performed magic in front of numerous Muggles without authorization, a serious violation of the Secret Service Act. If Fudge were still in power, they might all have ended up in Azkaban.
Such a large plane was severely damaged, and many Muggles were injured. The financial losses are incalculable, and the cleanup work is terrifying to even think about.
Furthermore, the supposedly vanished Purge has resurfaced and openly murdered Wade Grey. If this were to be revealed, it would undoubtedly cause a major upheaval in the magical world of Europe and America!
All these problems weighed heavily on their minds, making them so anxious that they wished they could travel through space and return instantly—the sooner they got back to England, the more likely they would be to take the initiative.
However, long-distance apparition is extremely dangerous, and the two of them need to set foot on British soil to be confident in casting this spell.
Of course, something this big must have already been communicated to Dumbledore by Vader.
But Moody and his colleague couldn't simply dump all the trouble on the principal and hide under the wings of a big bird like fledglings, pretending that everything was peaceful and idyllic.
Besides that, there was another thing weighing on their minds.
After a long silence, Moody spoke again, his voice much lower and carrying an unprecedented gravity:
“Remus…Wade’s…puppet…”
As if afraid of disturbing something, Mad Eyes didn't finish his sentence, but Lupin could fully understand what he was implying.
The very existence of those alchemical creations that can disguise themselves as ordinary people, possess inhuman powers, and whose numbers are unknown is terrifying.
but……
Lupin took a deep breath of the cold air, his gaze unconsciously following the direction in which the plane disappeared.
He spoke slowly, his voice not loud, but carrying an undeniable certainty:
“Alastor, I will always believe in Wade. I also believe… he can control what he needs to control!”
Lupin paused, then continued:
"Do you remember what Modius said? They'll soon be able to mass-produce magic puppets..."
"So now, even without Wade, the growth and expansion of the Puppet is unstoppable."
“But more than anyone else, I’d prefer that this power be controlled by Wade! At least he has enough rationality and self-control to know what he absolutely shouldn’t do!”
Moody gave Lupin a deep look, pressed down on the broom, increased his speed, and said gruffly:
"Then let's hurry up, every second we stay in this godforsaken place is torture!"
The two fell silent, pushing their speed to the limit, streaking across the sky like two shooting stars, flying towards that distant island.
