Chapter 590
Ambush
Chapter 590 Ambush
Most traps in the wizarding world are activated in two ways.
One is physically activated, just like Isabella did by stepping on it directly; the other is magically activated. When the main body of the trap detects a wizard with a certain level of magic approaching, it will suddenly launch an attack.
As for the former, the weight of the insect puppet is not even as heavy as a football, which is completely incapable of triggering the trap. Otherwise, the small creatures living in the dark environment would destroy all the traps before the warriors even enter the secret room.
By the same token, insect puppets will not trigger the latter type of trap. The magic power they carry is similar to that of small fairies.
Therefore, for the warriors, the secret room is full of dangers, but the insect puppets can move freely.
They are small and light, and can easily pass through the gaps between vines and rocks and penetrate deep into places that are difficult for humans to reach.
Wade sat in the corner, leaning against the cold wall, his chin resting on his hand and his eyes closed, waiting boredly.
After a while, a scorpion-shaped puppet raised its claws and brought him a golden egg with a click.
Wade put away the golden egg, waved his hand, and told the scorpion puppet to continue working.
Just at this moment, he suddenly heard a "bang" -
Another person was teleported in.
Wade raised his eyebrows and pointed his wand at an animal bone at his feet. The bone, as thick as a finger, stretched and deformed, and soon turned into a long convex mirror.
With the help of the mirror, he saw Viktor Krum appear next to the compass. He had a frown on his face and a grim expression. There was an obvious wound on his left arm, and blood had stained his robe red.
Viktor ignored his injuries, wand in hand, and quickly approached the wall, looking around vigilantly.
After waiting for a while, he found that no one attacked him, so he observed the environment of the secret room and realized that he should choose a passage to find the golden egg. Then he walked into the passage with heavy steps while keeping alert.
……
After three consecutive accidents that seemed extremely serious, the Ministry of Magic urgently mobilized staff to add a circle of sound-blocking spells around the stadium.
This way, the players will no longer be disturbed by Bagman's voice commentating on the game.
Fortunately or unfortunately, they did not hear Bagman's next words -
"Look, guys!" Bagman nearly jumped up in excitement. "Ved Grey has got the Golden Egg! He's the first Champion to ever get it! If he returns with this egg, he'll be sure to--oh, my God!"
Bagman was stunned for a moment when he saw Vader's actions in the mirror, and then he immediately shouted in an even more excited tone:
"Merlin! Look! He didn't leave after he found the golden egg - he chose to stay where he was - and now there's no one stopping him from touching the compass."
"It's obvious that Vid Grey intends to ambush the next contestant to enter the competition. This is an extremely risky move! Considering that he is younger than most of the contestants, we have to say that this is very bold! The other contestants are also no ordinary people..."
"Viktor Krum has entered the Chamber of Secrets! Are they about to have a head-on confrontation? Will Viktor be ambushed by the genius alchemist Vader? Or will Vader be killed by everyone's favorite Quidditch star?"
The audience stared at the picture in the mirror nervously and almost forgot about the two warriors who were still fighting with the fire dragon: "He runs away, it chases him, and he can't escape even if he has wings."
"Oh, no...be careful, Viktor!" a Hogwarts girl shouted worriedly.
Her brown-haired friend said angrily: "Whose side are you on? How can you cheer for the opponent?" "But...but..." The girl said with a pinched heart: "That's Victor!"
Brown-haired friend: “…”
She was also a fan of Victor, but now, she was more looking forward to seeing her idol being hit, falling slowly down covered in blood, with an expression of disbelief on his usually serious face, looking fragile and dejected.
Then, the scene fast-forwarded to a frustrated Victor lying on a bed in the medical wing, hiding under the quilt and crying silently, when a girl holding a bouquet of flowers pushed the door open for him...
The brown-haired friend clenched his fists, unable to contain his excitement at the plot he had woven in his mind, and secretly cheered for Vader.
"Come on, Vader!" Hufflepuff's Theo shouted, "Kill Krum!"
"But..." A roommate next to him hesitated and said, "Wouldn't that seem a bit mean?"
"Despicable?" Theo said dissatisfiedly: "This is called strategy! If you don't believe me, wait and see the other contestants and see if they can get along with each other!"
"A game is a game. All means permitted by the rules are reasonable. Spells are part of competition, and so is the brain."
Ryan said firmly, "The competition requires the warriors to [return safely] with the golden egg, which actually implies that here the players need to guard against attacks from others."
Karkaroff stroked his cane, staring fiercely at Vader who was hiding in an excellent position, and then looked at Viktor with worry and expectation.
He knew that his students were quick to react and would not be easily ambushed by Weed Grey.
But that side doesn’t seem easy to deal with. What if Victor gets injured again, how will he deal with the next enemy?
Under the watchful eyes of the crowd, Viktor finally lowered his wand slightly and walked towards one of the passages.
A collective sigh of regret rang out from the stands.
……
Vader put down his wand regretfully.
Viktor chose another passage. The two passages were not facing each other. After walking into that one, it would be difficult for Wade's spells to hit the opponent. He couldn't jump out from his hiding place to attack.
During this period of time, two more golden eggs appeared beside him, and Wade put them in his pocket as well.
In fact, if he wanted to, he could create more insect puppets to take away all the golden eggs, leaving no one else with a single eggshell.
But the Ministry of Magic had been preparing for the competition for such a long time, and had invited eleven magic schools to participate with great fanfare. It was impossible that Wade would eliminate everyone else and directly secure the championship as soon as the first event started.
The result of making it impossible for others to play is either the referee forcibly changes the rules of the game and disqualifies Wade from continuing to participate on the grounds of "violating the regulations", or everyone stops playing with you.
Therefore, Wade did not plan to attack the players who entered another channel. He just stayed here and screened some of his opponents in advance.
Immediately afterwards, two more contestants fell into the secret room at no particular order. As soon as they landed, they bounced up quickly and waved their wands at each other!
