Chapter 799
Trap
Chapter 799 Trap
"squeak--"
With a screech of brakes, the taxi stopped beside a quiet street. The driver, his arm propped against the window, leaned out and shouted:
"Have a great trip, guys! If we meet at a bar next time, I'll buy you a drink!"
Despite being chatted with by the driver the whole way, Lupin was still somewhat surprised by such a warm invitation.
He waved and thanked him with a smile.
The taxi sped away like a gust of wind. The driver glanced at Wade Gray standing on the street and the White Bridge Hotel not far away through the rearview mirror, and couldn't help but smile.
"Haha, I actually got to drive Wade Gray! I can brag about this to Jennifer all day when I get back. I hope she doesn't think I'm lying..."
……
The White Bridge Hotel is not far away.
Considering that Muggles generally cannot see it, the group got off the bus a little further away and then walked over.
However, just as Wade's gaze habitually swept across the air in front of him, a sudden change occurred!
Like a swarm of mosquitoes flying across his field of vision, Wade suddenly saw countless tiny, wriggling, shimmering golden threads appearing in the air!
These threads silently spread along the path leading to the inn, emanating an ominous aura, like a large, open net waiting for its prey to fall into it!
In the blink of an eye, the wondrous sight vanished as if it had never existed!
Wade's pupils contracted sharply: "Wait—"
"do not move!"
Almost at the same time, Moody growled.
He raised his arm to block Wade and Lupin, his blue demonic eye spinning wildly at an unprecedented speed, locking onto what appeared to be an empty area in front of him.
"what happened?"
As Lupin spoke, he quickly drew his wand and scanned his surroundings.
Vader's fingers curled slightly, and just as he was about to fasten the pencil case hidden in his pocket, he suddenly became alert, his fingers naturally gripping the wand, his expression as wary as the two people beside him.
"That's not right!"
Moody said in a hoarse voice, his normally bright eyes narrowing into slits.
Looking at the direction of his gaze, Wade almost wondered if Moody, like himself, could also see the trajectory of magic.
"There's a trap here...it's a curse!"
Moody whispered hoarsely, his voice filled with disgust:
“I’ve seen this method before. The curse will cause flesh to wither and death to be extremely gruesome. Only the person who cast the curse can completely remove it… Step back, this guy is very insidious.”
Wade and Lupin naturally trusted Moody's extensive experience. The two immediately retreated to create enough distance between them, while Lupin kept Wade firmly by his side, never letting his guard down for a moment.
Although he knew very well that Vader's combat abilities were now no less than his own, and that he had a whole space of puppets by his side, in Lupin's heart, Vader was still that child who needed protection.
Moody's did not attempt to dismantle this intricately designed trap, as it would have been too time-consuming and extremely risky.
Therefore, Moody's chose the most direct and forceful method, which also ensured safety.
"I'm going to detonate it! Remus, give me a hand!"
"clear."
Lupin flicked his wrist slightly, and the wand hidden in his sleeve swung slightly. A whirlwind rose out of thin air and grew several times larger in the blink of an eye, stirring up dust from the nearby construction site and disturbing the trash cans not far away.
"call--"
A sudden gust of wind swept through the street, carrying with it a thick layer of dust, piles of plastic bags, and a pungent stench! "Aaaaaah—"
The few passersby screamed and rushed into the shops on the side of the street, covering their heads.
The shops reacted quickly, closing their doors and windows, and the residents along the street rushed to their windows, creating a cacophony of banging noises.
At this moment, no one cared whether there were any fools still standing on the street; the gray-yellow, dust-filled whirlwind completely blocked everyone's view.
"Ha ha ha ha……"
Moody laughed loudly, "Well done, Remus! I should have chosen you as my partner in the first place!"
God knows how many times he nearly fainted from anger because of his stupid, incompetent teammates while he was working at the Ministry of Magic! And how many times he was dragged down by those useless idiots who needed to be reworked!
With a rather pleasant feeling, Moody suddenly swung his wand, the movement powerful and precise!
A blazing red lightning bolt shot forward, striking the key point of the invisible trap. Vader even heard a crisp "crack" sound!
Moody swung his wand a few times forcefully, like cracking a whip—
Bang!Bang!Bang!
Violent magical explosions rang out one after another!
In Vader's vision, those golden curse threads instantly became extremely violent, writhing wildly like a venomous snake whose tail had been stepped on, bursting out with dangerous light!
"boom--!!!"
The cursed trap suddenly exploded, creating a small-scale magical shockwave. Moody was sent flying backward, but Lupin caught him with a wave of his wand. The ground and walls nearby were riddled with craters of all sizes.
"Boom!"
Another loud crash followed as the nearest lamppost fell straight down, smashing through the glass of a luxury store, sending screams of Muggles blaring inside!
"Alastor, you're injured!" Lupin exclaimed with concern.
Wade, who was staring at the alleyway, immediately turned his head to look. Shrapnel from the explosion grazed Moody's left arm like flying knives, leaving a deep, bone-revealing wound on his arm, from which blood immediately gushed out.
"alert!"
Moody shouted, "My little injury is nothing. Be careful not to give anyone an opening! There's no time to relax until the very last moment!"
"I see!"
Lupin said in a deep voice, his wand positioned at an angle ready to unleash an attack, alert to any potential enemies around him.
The werewolf's eyes became extremely sharp, and its gentle temperament was replaced by vigilance, making it look even dangerous.
Almost simultaneously, all three noticed a figure—
The exceptionally wide black robe was clearly held up by a frame hidden inside, making it impossible to discern his figure.
His hair was completely covered by a hood, and he wore a mask of a smiling Grim Reaper, with what appeared to be blood at the corner of his mouth.
The man was standing at the entrance of the alley a few dozen meters away, staring intently in this direction. His strange attire and expression immediately drew the attention of all three of them.
The man knew he had been discovered. He raised his head slightly, smiled, and the mouth on his mask even turned up a little.
"court death!"
Moody waved his wand, about to cast a spell, when suddenly he heard a "bang".
The hotel door was suddenly pushed open, and a group of people rushed out, seemingly startled by the commotion outside.
In that moment of distraction, the Grim Reaper mask stepped back, and his entire body seemed to merge into the shadows and disappear.
