Chapter 566
A wise man never falls in love
Chapter 566 A wise man never falls in love
It was Saturday and there were no classes. Although the Goblet of Fire in the foyer caught everyone's attention, no one would stay in the foyer or the auditorium the whole day.
After breakfast, everyone dispersed. Wade took a book and went to the umbrella house to pass the time.
Not long after he arrived, Theo and his friend arrived with their homework, then Padma, who also brought a bunch of snacks, and within half an hour, the rest of the group arrived.
Michael was the last one to come in, with a look of depression on his face. He slammed the door shut, shocking everyone.
Padma raised her eyebrows and said loudly, "Hey, no one here offends you."
"Sorry." Michael scratched his hair, sat in his seat, picked up a book at random, opened it, and then threw it down in annoyance.
"What's wrong?" Wade asked, "Did you have a fight with someone?"
Michael looked like he didn't want to say anything, and said in a muffled voice, "Nothing."
Padma, however, understood: "It's Daphne, right?"
"Daphne?" several people repeated in unison, looking extremely shocked.
"Michael...your new girlfriend is Daphne from Slytherin?" Hermione asked bluntly.
"Yeah, isn't it strange?" Michael said, "She is so pretty, and her personality is not as bad as Pansy's. Maybe you haven't noticed that she has never actively bullied others."
"But she never stopped Pansy from bullying others, did she?" Hermione pointed out sharply, "She was an accomplice."
Michael's eyes drifted, and he said stubbornly: "What accomplice... If she doesn't agree with them, her own situation in the academy will become very difficult. There is nothing we can do about it."
"But why are you with her..." Harry said puzzledly: "I don't have any problem with Daphne, but I thought you didn't like Slytherin either."
"To be exact, I don't like most of the Slytherins who advocate the pure-blood theory. I have a good relationship with many Slytherins, such as Astoria."
Michael corrected her, and added, "However, it was because I saw Daphne defending her sister in front of Pansy and then hiding by the greenhouse and crying secretly that I felt that she was a little... different."
He glanced at Padma guiltily, and the voices behind him became a little quieter.
Padma's expression was much more normal, as if it had nothing to do with her. She asked, "Why did you quarrel again today?"
Speaking of this, Michael's expression became depressed again:
"Daphne...she wanted me to go to the maze with her today, but I said I had to go to the Umbrella House. I had planned to finish my thesis today, but...as soon as I said that, for some reason, she started crying and said that if I didn't care about her, we might as well break up..."
"And then?" Wade asked in surprise, "She said that, and you still came here?"
Michael is not a straight man, he knows how to make a girl happy. According to common sense, he should have said a few words to make Daphne happy instead of running to the umbrella house with anger.
"Ah... I'm just a little annoyed..." Michael lay on the table and said gloomily, "Daphne is actually quite cute, but if I want to date her, I have to give up my accustomed lifestyle and give in to her preferences. I just can't stand it."
Padma sneered, "You fool."
"What?" Michael looked at her in confusion: "Do you think my idea is wrong?"
"Don't you understand?" Padma said in a tone that showed she was in a superior position of intelligence, looking down at Michael, "She doesn't want to go to the maze, nor does she not want you to come to the Umbrella House - she just thought that you insisted on coming to the Umbrella House because..."
She bit her lip and said with a slightly red face, "...see me." Padma was the most beautiful girl in her grade. When a thin layer of blush appeared on her cheeks, she was as beautiful as a sunset hidden under the frozen lake.
Michael's gaze suddenly froze. He was in a trance for a long while before he realized what the other party had said. He blinked slowly and uttered "Ah".
After two seconds, he stammered again: "So it is... ah, so..."
He flipped through the book again, making a loud noise, put it down, and fidgeted like a hedgehog in his chair, before finally standing up suddenly.
"I...I'd better explain it to her again..."
He didn't know who he was talking to, so he pulled out the chair and ran out of the umbrella house again.
Everyone else in the room, including Wade, was too afraid to speak because of the tense atmosphere between the two men.
When the sound of the door closing was heard, everyone subconsciously looked at Padma.
Padma, on the other hand, seemed to feel nothing. She pushed her homework towards Hermione and said, "Hermione, have you written your paper on the Muggle Repelling Spell? I was thinking if the spell could be combined like this..."
The stagnant air in the room seemed to start flowing again, and everyone regained their breath.
Theo leaned closer to Wade and whispered, "Did you see the look in Michael's eyes just now? I think he still likes Padma in his heart."
"He's just attracted by her beauty. It's a good thing Padma and the others have good tempers, otherwise if Michael continues like this, he'll be chopped to pieces sooner or later." Wade complained indifferently.
Theo asked in confusion, "What do you mean?"
"A wise man should not fall in love." Wade said seriously, "Love is a poison that makes people lower their intelligence. Its ability to control the mind is more terrible than the Imperius Curse."
Theo was speechless for a long while before he said, "Well, it's not that absolute..."
After lunch, it started to drizzle, and the air was filled with the damp smell of earth, making it seem particularly fresh.
Through the window, everyone could see many students from foreign schools queuing up outside the maze with great interest. Even the rain could not dampen their enthusiasm.
"Why didn't the school seal off the maze?" Padma muttered, "This is our training resource at Hogwarts..."
As if she thought this statement was too petty, she added: "And what if those guys cause trouble in there?"
Ryan asked, "Who of you has decided to participate in the competition? Have you all signed up?"
Everyone looked at each other, and Ryan said first: "Theo and I are not planning to participate. Our school thinks there will definitely be a Cedric."
"I didn't sign up either." Padma shrugged. "Let me compete with others in a game where I could die? Spare me."
"Same." Hermione said cautiously, "I don't think I have enough knowledge to be selected. If that's the case, there's no point in signing up."
"I think so too." Neville smiled naively.
Wade and Harry were left alone, and they looked at each other.
"So it seems that there are only two of us who have signed up?" Wade said.
