Chapter 887

Black Dog

Chapter 887 Black Dog
Before the young man could finish speaking, he saw the stall owner's glance at him.

His expression carried a look of disgust as if he were looking at a madman, mixed with an certainty and disdain that "this person is definitely not mentally sound," as if he were looking at some kind of garbage that was affecting the cleanliness of the city.

The young man's words came to an abrupt halt.

He twitched the muscles at the corner of his mouth, revealing a cold smile, then lowered his eyelids listlessly, no longer interested in speaking.

There are so many foolish people in this world that even if you lay out the bloody truth for them, they will only show an expression full of "foolish superiority".

Humans can never understand the world beyond their own perception.

The young man's expression showed neither disgust nor anger, but rather a hint of condescending pity.

He glanced at the stall owner, whose mind was only focused on making a few dollars today, and turned to leave.

The voices of the stall owner and customers could be faintly heard behind me:

"What was that strange man muttering about just now?"

"Who knows? A lunatic!"

……

"Jingle Bell……"

The young man had only walked a few steps when his phone suddenly rang.

He wiped his hands on his wrinkled plaid shirt, answered the phone, and heard a hurried voice on the other end:

"Dr. Danis, the meeting is about to start. Have you left yet? Did you stay up late again last night and forget the time? Do you need me to pick you up?"

Brian Danis held the phone further away, rubbed his ear, and said, "I'm out. No, I don't need it."

"Really?" the woman on the other end of the phone asked skeptically. "Then give me a specific time. How long will it take you to get there?"

“Hmm…” Danis looked at the muddy street and was estimating how long it would take when he suddenly heard someone shout:

"—It's absolutely true! The water was so strong that I couldn't stand up at all! I was about to be swept into the sewer when suddenly a huge black dog appeared..."

Danis stopped abruptly, turning his head sharply in the direction the sound came from.

An elderly man with a full head of white curly hair stretched out his arms, gesturing excitedly, and said with spittle flying, "He suddenly appeared out of nowhere, grabbed my clothes, and dragged me to the side of the road!"

The old man's companion chuckled and said, "I think you're dreaming! Such a big black dog running into the flood to save you? Your family doesn't even have a single dog hair!"

"Oh, really!" the old man exclaimed. "I could never dream of such a creature! Even though it was a dog, the way it looked at me... its eyes... were more human than my good-for-nothing son's!"

The arrogance and aloofness on Danis's face vanished completely, replaced by extreme focus and astonishment.

"This is getting more and more ridiculous!" The old man's companion didn't believe it at all and urged, "Stop making up stories and let's go! Eggs are sure to go up in price today, and we don't even know how many we can buy!"

"Dr. Danis! Dr. Danis! Are you still listening?" the female assistant urged repeatedly. "Brian Danis! You didn't throw your phone on the sink again, did you? Wait here, I'm coming to find you right now!"

Danis didn't listen to what she was saying at all, hung up the incessantly talking phone, and strode towards the white-haired old man.

The old man muttered, "What I said is true," when suddenly someone grabbed his arm. He turned around and saw a young man staring intently at him, saying, "Tell me more about the dog you just mentioned!"

"Hey! What do you think you're doing? Let him go!" The old man's companion immediately came over and tried to separate the two.

Danis, quick-witted, decisively said, "One hundred eggs!"

"What?" The two old men were stunned at the same time.

“I’ll give you a hundred eggs! Fresh!” Danis said decisively. “Tell me about that dog!”

The curly-haired old man hesitated for a moment, but finally, tempted by the eggs, he spoke up: "It's a very large black dog, probably almost up to my chest, and weighs at least eighty kilograms..." "That's not what I want to hear!" Danis interrupted him impatiently, asking, "What do its eyes look like? Are its joints not flexible enough? Does it run smoothly? Are there any artificial marks on its body?"

Curly-haired old man: "..."

His face was full of incomprehension, but it was clear that he really wanted the one hundred eggs that Danis had promised, so he racked his brains to remember.

However, the more you try to recall a memory, the faster it slips away.

After a long pause, the curly-haired old man slumped his shoulders helplessly and said, "I...I don't remember..."

His companion was as anxious as an ant on a hot pan, his fists clenching and unclenching, wishing he could pry open his mouth and jump in to speak for him—if you don't remember, just make something up!

But Danis on the other side wasn't disappointed. He looked as if he had expected it and continued to ask, "And what about the saliva?"

"What?" the old man asked, puzzled.

"Didn't you say that dog once carried your clothes in its mouth? Then its saliva must have gotten on your clothes too."

With sharp eyes and rapid speech, Danis said, "That viscous liquid, even if it's washed away by rain, there will definitely be some residue... Don't you remember?"

The curly-haired old man was stunned.

He reached out with a dazed look in his eyes and covered his shoulder.

After a moment, she seemed to be talking to herself as she said, "I remember... after it let go of me, I was worried that it would bite my shoulder, so I touched it like this... but, but..."

He raised his hand, looked at his palm, then covered his shoulder again, his expression becoming increasingly confused.

"Ha! I knew it!"

Like a victorious child, Danis clenched his fist and smiled confidently and with certainty.

"You didn't touch that viscous liquid that could be stretched into thin threads; nor did you smell the fishy odor from the dog's mouth, right?"

The curly-haired old man said in surprise, "How...how did you know?"

“Brian Danis!” Just then, an angry scream came from the other side of the street.

The female assistant came rushing over in her high heels, her face filled with suppressed anger: "Doctor! You're chatting with people here? Everyone else is here, waiting for you to start the meeting!"

Danis seemed not to hear her question, staring blankly into the void, muttering, "So that's how it is... I knew it... I was absolutely right... He's here..."

"Who's here?" the female assistant said. "They've all been asking why you haven't come yet! I've been humbly apologizing to people! You..."

“Becky, give them a hundred eggs!” Danis suddenly turned and said.

The assistant could hardly believe his ears: "What? Egg? What kind of code name is that?"

“Eggs, just regular eggs,” Danis repeated. “Give them to me now, I’m going to a meeting.”

He turned and left, leaving his assistant standing there bewildered, turning to look at the two ordinary elderly people beside him.

The other person gave her a simple, honest smile.

Another old man squinted and said, "Your doctor promised, you're not going to go back on your word, are you?"

The assistant was so angry she laughed. She quickly wrote a check, handed it to them, and said, "Here! This is enough for you to buy a thousand eggs!"

After saying that, she jogged after Danis, calling out, "Wait, I'll go with you! So you don't get lost on the way!"
