Chapter 687
Mist
Chapter 687 Mist
A strange golden mist enveloped the entire road. To the left was a dense forest of plants, and to the right was a deep pit, where the trees were almost at Clementine's eye level.
The girl bit her lip, hesitant.
The golden mist in front of her looked very strange and was undoubtedly a trap. She used seven or eight spells in a row, but she could neither disperse the mist nor detect what it was.
The spell always passed straight through the fog, as if it were just a harmless and ordinary natural phenomenon, but Clementine was certainly not so naive.
If you don't want to go in, you'll have to take a detour.
But if she goes back and chooses a different path... without a compass, she will surely lose her way.
The horseman said that if you keep walking along this road, you will see the trophy.
—Shall we take a gamble? Or…?
After thinking for a long time, the girl suddenly gritted her teeth, cast an Iron Armor Spell on herself, put her arms in front of her face, and rushed in!
……
The gray mouse huddled beneath a thick clump of shallots, using the strong garlic smell to conceal its presence, its black eyes peering fearfully through the gaps in the leaves at the scene before it.
The enormous gorilla squatted in the middle of the open space, making "grunt" sounds in its throat, grumbling and complaining about the people who had escaped right under its nose. Even the little flower hanging on its head drooped listlessly.
Although it's absurd, Jabari the mouse seems to be hallucinating a wronged child who is throwing a tantrum.
Not far away, in the elderberry bushes, a lizard slowly poked its triangular head out, its eyes rolling as it looked at its owner, as if it were furtively observing him.
The cheetah strolled gracefully to the gorilla's side, let out a series of snickers from its throat, straightened up, and patted the gorilla's lowered head with its front paw.
The gorilla roared and pushed the cheetah with its paw. The cheetah rolled on the ground but quickly got up and lay down next to Wade, licking its paws indifferently.
Seeing this, Wade chuckled and reached out to rub the gorilla's rough head, saying, "I see... I'm sorry to have troubled you."
He casually picked a small, unopened flower from the ground, and without much movement, the flower bloomed in his hand, its pale purple petals unfurling and a delicate fragrance spreading out.
Wade tucked the small flower beside the gorilla's ear, glanced at the dense, thorny forest ahead, and said:
"It doesn't matter if she gets away. As long as we still want the trophy, we'll meet again sooner or later."
The compass in his hand pointed to the dense thicket of thorns. In this forest, even normal creatures seemed to become dangerous. The thorns in front of him formed a high wall covered with steel needles, and even the Bowtruckle could not move freely inside.
They seem to be saying, "Contestants, this road is blocked. Take a detour; there are more traps waiting for you ahead."
But Wade didn't want to keep wandering around in the forest. He reached out and touched the cheetah's soft ears, saying, "I'll walk the rest of the way myself. You guys take care of that little mouse behind us. Don't let anyone get close except Harry..."
After a pause, remembering that the praying mantis hadn't appeared yet, he sighed softly and added:
"...I'll try my best. If I really can't stop them, it's okay to let them through—I can handle it."
The three puppets stared at him, and after a moment, they bowed slightly.
Then, the gorilla turned its head, revealing a ferocious expression; the lizard turned around, its wagging tongue seemingly sensing the breath in the air; the cheetah lowered its body, its eyes seemingly glowing in the darkness.
Their gazes were simultaneously turned toward the direction where the mouse was.
Jabari instantly bristled. He dared not gamble on the chances that the other party had not discovered him. He rushed out of his hiding place in a panic and burrowed into the gap between the tree roots, his tiny claws digging a trail of dust into the ground.
A rumbling sound came from behind; the puppets' pursuit was utterly devastating. The gorilla violently smashed through the obstructing tree trunks, the lizards slithered with incredible speed, and the cheetahs left clear claw marks on the ground with every step.
The sounds of pursuit quickly faded into the distance. Wade didn't turn around to observe the battle situation of the puppets, nor did he care that a few warriors were still capable of catching up.
He waved his wand, and the thicket of thorns in front of him seemed to be parted by an invisible hand. The thorny branches twisted and curled to both sides, revealing a narrow path in the middle that could only accommodate one person at a time.
Vader stepped into the passage, an orb of light hovering above him. Wherever the light touched, the thorns receded, and the path stretched out straight. ...
The gray rat scurried wildly through the woods, a stone thrown by the gorilla behind it grazing its tail and striking a tree trunk, sending splinters flying.
He made a sharp turn, narrowly avoiding the cheetah's gleaming claws.
The most chilling thing was that the lizard had disappeared at some point, and it felt like it might pop out from some corner at any moment.
The mouse's whiskers trembled nervously. If it weren't for its small size, which allowed it to squeeze into any crevice, it would have been caught by those guys five minutes ago.
Just as he was frantically fleeing for his life, Clementine suddenly appeared from behind a large tree ahead. The girl was pale and tense, and quickly waved her arm to indicate the direction Jabari had fled.
Without thinking, Jabari rushed toward her, and just as they were about to pass each other, Clementine yelled and swung her wand violently, as if an invisible rope was tied to a rat, instantly pulling him aside!
The cheetah, in hot pursuit, couldn't brake in time. After passing through the dense forest, it plunged headlong into the seemingly harmless golden mist ahead. Its charging steps immediately stopped, its hind leg muscles twitched, its tail stiffened, and its entire spine suddenly arched.
Jabari didn't understand why the cheetah had suddenly transformed, but he knew when to seize the opportunity, quickly transforming back into human form and raising his wand. Meanwhile, Clementine, who was already prepared, screamed:
"The flames are blazing!"
She seemed to have made preparations on the ground beforehand; the moment the spell struck, flames shot up with a whoosh, instantly engulfing the cheetah puppet.
"Roar--"
The gorilla roared and charged, slamming the cheetah out of the golden mist. It then braked sharply at the edge, a human-like expression of terror appearing on its face.
At that moment, the gorilla realized why the cheetah had suddenly stopped:
The whole world seemed to be turned upside down. The ground beneath my feet felt like the ceiling, while the sky above my head felt like the ground. It felt like if I lifted my foot, I would immediately fall into the boundless sky, or even plunge into the dark universe.
The infusion of ideas gave it its own "humanity," but also made it feel fear.
In the instant the gorilla trembled and could not move, the flames completely engulfed it, and Jabari and Clementine's curses rained down upon it one after another—
"Split into pieces!"
"Shattered to pieces!"
"Thunderbolt explosion!"
The gorilla stood in the mist. It had come to understand that the golden mist had not actually turned the world upside down. As long as it lifted its foot, it could break free from this predicament.
But the moment it lifted its foot, its remaining shell burst apart with a whoosh, falling to the ground and burning silently, emitting wisps of black smoke.
A yellow stone that originally served as an eye rolled twice, and a light seemed to flicker on it a few times before finally going out completely.
Jabari breathed a sigh of relief, only then realizing that his heart was pounding abnormally hard and that all the muscles in his body seemed to be twitching.
The cheetah rolled on the ground repeatedly until it finally extinguished the flames on its body. Standing under the beech tree, it witnessed the orangutan disintegrate.
Then, the cheetah raised its head, its green eyes gazing at the two wizards opposite it through the golden mist.
"Alright, it won't dare come any closer for now," Clementine said quickly. "Let's go, get out of here!"
Before she could finish speaking, she suddenly heard a strange wind sound. She turned her head sharply and saw a thin, long tongue wrapped around Jabari's neck like a venomous snake!
Jabari, his face still showing a mixture of relief and lingering fear, reached out to scratch his neck. Before he could react, he was suddenly suspended in mid-air, his boots falling off as he struggled.
"Clap!"
Clementine's gaze froze instantly!
