Chapter 868
The Twins' Magic Show
Chapter 868 The Twins' Magic Show
No matter how worried Harry was, it couldn't affect the magic performance by "Webb and Wiley" on television.
Fred exaggeratedly blew a breath onto the deck of cards, then snapped his fingers in a cool manner.
"Snapped!"
George reached out and flipped the card, revealing the Ace of Hearts at the very bottom!
A round of enthusiastic applause erupted in the studio. Finon muttered, "Hmph, what a cliché performance."
"Of course, if you want it to be at the very top..."
Fred winked at the audience, and George, understanding, casually inserted the Ace of Hearts.
"Snapped!"
After another snap of the fingers, the top card was flipped over, and it turned out to be the Ace of Hearts!
Dudley let out a muffled gasp, and Penny paused in her frying of the egg.
"This is impossible!" exclamations erupted from the audience!
“Oh… how did you do that?” Penny instinctively looked at her husband.
Finon put his newspaper down completely, frowned, and tried to turn his not-so-bright head.
Only Harry was caught between wanting to laugh and feeling a pang of worry that made his stomach clench.
Based on Harry's understanding of the Ministry of Magic and the Statute of Secrecy, in this situation, an owl should suddenly swoop into the studio and deliver a warning letter from the Ministry of Magic to the Weasley brothers.
Or perhaps an Auror has quietly taken control of the scene, and then the TV screen turns to static, and the program abruptly cuts off...
However, nothing happened. Fred and George smugly enjoyed the audience's amazed looks, and only after a while did they begin to reveal the secret:
"Haha... Actually, this kind of magic trick is very simple. It usually requires a special card stacking order, a snapping string, and hand speed honed over twenty years..."
"—But our method is much simpler! We just need to check the moon phase before leaving the house, see what mood our goblins and spiders are in, and then get a scolding from Mom by the ear..."
"Of course! The most important thing is having a pair of twin brothers who understand each other perfectly, so they can distract the audience at crucial moments—"
"Then beckon with your finger..."
They put their arms around each other and openly admitted to "cheating" in front of the camera, making the audience laugh.
"My God! Isn't this cheating?" host Mike said in an exaggerated tone.
Fred mimicked his tone, saying, "My God! Mike! You don't really think we can teleport playing cards, do you?"
He winked and made faces, which drew another burst of laughter from the audience.
The twins then went on to perform other common magic tricks, such as levitation (with a stool hidden under their buttocks), coin passing through (actually a bottle was tampered with), and telepathy (Fred giving George hints using a special method).
Of course, after the performance, there was always a reveal process, which drew frequent shouts from the audience:
"It's that simple?!"
"Haha, I can do it too!"
Especially after the two performed the "teleportation" magic trick, when George said, "The secret to this magic trick is—"
The entire audience shouted in unison, "There are twin brothers who look exactly alike!"
"Fantastic!" Fred stormed onto the stage from the audience, shouting, "You stole my lines!"
"Ha ha ha ha……"
The joyful laughter nearly lifted the roof off, and Harry finally felt completely relieved.
It turns out that Fred and George weren't crazy enough to use magic in public; they were just performing a common magic trick!
However, just as he breathed a sigh of relief, the twins suddenly moved aside, instantly putting on pointed wizard hats and even taking out wands, saying in a deliberately profound tone: "Some audience members may ask—these are all common magic tricks, how dare you call them 'like magic'?"
"So now, we will show you real magic... I mean, real magic... the art of levitation!"
Fred seemed to have said something wrong; as he jumped onto the table and struck a pose, his eyes darted around, which drew bursts of laughter.
Then, George waved his wand and shouted in a seemingly serious manner, "Levitation—Yugadimmleviosa!"
"boom!"
Harry's hand trembled, and the fork fell onto the table!
He stared at the screen, dumbfounded, his mind racing—
Stop! What are you doing?! Where is Mrs. Weasley? She'll kill them!
The heavy wooden table, along with Fred sitting on it, began to sway and float, slowly drifting from left to right and then back to left.
Fred even stood up, spread his arms, and shouted, "Behold! Call me Antigravity Willy!"
George stood beside him, shaking his wand like a conductor, making it look like he was struggling.
A gasp rippled through the audience as many craned their necks, seemingly trying to see what kind of contraptions they were wearing.
The host, Mike, exclaimed repeatedly, "My God! My God! It really flew!!"
A few minutes later, Fred landed slowly, and the twins bent over together, then looked up with a carefree, bright smile.
George winked slyly and said, "So, clever viewers, has anyone figured out the principle behind our little trick?"
The audience pondered deeply, and some shouted, "A metal frame! It must have been made of metal!"
Someone on the other side shouted, "Look at how he flies... is there a steel wire hanging from his back?"
Some people even asked naively, "Can you really defy gravity?"
The camera panned across the audience, capturing faces filled with confusion, surprise, and racking their brains.
But this time, the twins didn't reveal the secret. Instead, they looked at the camera with a defiant, confident smile.
"Dear friends, this magic trick is an open challenge we issue to magicians and intelligent people all over the world—find the secret! If you can!"
Host Mike jumped in at the opportune moment, cheerfully announcing, "The first viewer to solve the mystery of the 'Anti-Gravity Wiley Suspension' will receive a prize of one thousand pounds!"
"What are you waiting for? If you've already guessed their method, pick up the phone right now and tell us your answer! Our phone number is 071..."
“One thousand pounds!” Vernon jumped up from his chair. “Quick! Dudley, give me the phone! Penny, write down the number, we have to be the first!”
Penny reacted dramatically, grabbing the pen like a nimble bird, while Dudley clumsily rushed to the telephone and ripped the receiver off.
"I'll do it! Dad, let me do it! I know what to say!"
On the screen, after Mike repeated the phone call twice, Fred took advantage of the last moment to raise his voice and say:
"The reveal ends next Saturday, at which time we will announce the real answer and bring you an even more exciting performance!"
George shouted, "Tune in on time for 'Magic Like Magic'! Although magic doesn't exist, we can make the world more magical!"
The background music started playing, and a huge program logo and cast list filled the entire screen. Harry quickly stuffed the last bite of bread into his mouth and dashed out of the kitchen!
"Hey!" Fernon, busy dialing a number, immediately roared, "Your cutlery—"
However, Harry had already rushed up the stairs, the wooden steps creaking rapidly beneath his feet, just like his burning emotions.
